With
students flooding its programs, to say simply that “the Business
Division needs a new home” dramatically understates the case.
Things were
already crowded when the Business Division first occupied the basement
floor of the Administration Building eight years ago. Since then the
number of students majoring in business has more than doubled from 310
in 2002 to 650 in 2010.
The Fine Arts
building on the LCSC campus in Lewiston has been home to science
experiments, pianos, ballet slippers, and, in recent history, Campus
Security and Nursing and Health Sciences faculty offices. The Business
Division is hoping, now, to put the building to a different use by
renovating the 11,011 square-foot building into the new Business
Division office building.
Unlike programs
of comparable size (Education and Nursing), the Business Division has no
dedicated classroom space on campus. Worse: Full-time faculty members
are shoehorned into tiny, conjoined offices that offer no privacy for
students wanting to discuss such critical matters as family issues,
class schedules, or even grades.
Projected estimates indicate continued and rapid growth for the next
several years. You can help give our Business Division the home it
deserves by supporting the renovation project now.
