The
Outstanding Alumni Award is given annually to recognize
excellence among former students of the college. This year
the LCSC Alumni Association has named an Attorney who is a
leader in her profession and community, Sonyalee Nutsch.
Sonyalee R. Nutsch, BS,
Justice Studies, ’97
Sonyalee
Nutsch, Attorney at Clements, Brown & McNichols, P.A.,
enrolled at LCSC in 1993 as an honors student and Foundation
Scholar. She was a founding member of the LCSC Mock Trial
team. During her senior year, she received the Gertrude
Mellen Dick Award for the highest grade average for four
years of undergraduate work.
She
entered law school at the University of Idaho and graduated
in 2000 with her J.D. In 1999, she began an internship at
the Nez Perce County Prosecutor’s Office, and then accepted
a full-time position with the county office after her
successful completion of the Idaho Bar Exam. In June 2003
she accepted an offer with the Lewiston firm of Clements,
Brown and McNichols.
Sonyalee
has been an inspiration to her co-workers. In addition to
her professional career, she sings in her church choir,
teaches Sunday school, and helps with LCSC Mock Trial Team.
She works hard to make her goals and dreams come true. She
deserves this award for all of her hard work and dedication.
The Aletha Pabst Award
recognizes someone who is not an alumnus who
has made an outstanding contribution to Lewis-Clark
State College.
Greenfield (Green) M.
Baggett, BA, History, University of Virginia, ’66
After
graduating from the University of Virginia, Green went home
to the Mississippi family cotton/soybean plantation. Green
continued farming until 1990 when he leased his farm and
began working as a rural carrier for the U.S. Post Office.
While working as a rural carrier, he attended the Diocese of
Mississippi Diaconal School, graduated in 1997, and was
ordained Deacon in the Episcopal Church. Green served as
Deacon in various churches in Mississippi until he retired
and moved to Lewiston in July 2000.
Since
his retirement he continues serving the St. Peters Episcopal
Church in Pomeroy, Washington and dedicates 20 to 25 hours
per week at Lewis-Clark State College. His award nominee
wrote “Green is deeply interested in and involved in serving
LCSC students and has done so in a variety of ways. He has
volunteered in the Career Development Services (CDS) Office
for almost three years. During that time, he has advised
and assisted students, taught workshops, led sessions on
career choice, provided mock interviews to students, and
answered many questions posed by students, alumni, and
community members using the CDS services. As a member of
the CDS staff, he serves as a member of the Advisory
Committee and has also helped with commencement planning,
preparation, and during the event itself. On separate
occasions, he has judged students during competitions
through the BTS Division.
Green is
the epitome of a lifetime learner. As such, I believe he
represents the essence of LCSC. Not only is he a huge
supporter of our College and students, he also finds time to
volunteer for the local soup kitchen, Rotary, St. Joseph
Regional Medical Center, and his church.” Green resides in
Lewiston with his wife, Sandra.
