Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

 

AGING AND THE ELDERLY

 

Share your talents with the elderly! Volunteers are needed at L-C Valley Nursing homes and care facilities to visit with and entertain residents. Help with letter writing, take walks, read, do arts and crafts, etc.

 

 

Idaho Veteran's Home - Serve those who have served out country; volunteers needed for visits and activities. Individuals or organizations can Adopt-a-Vet and honor them with cards or gifts on holidays and birthdays.

 

 

Burrell St. & Millcreek Apts. - Assist senior citizens with basic computer skills.

 

ANIMALS                           

 

 

Lewis-Clark Animal Shelter - TRAINING PROVIDED!!  Provide attention and care to animals! Socialize cats and dogs. Grooming and other care as necessary.

 

 

BUSINESS / RETAIL

 

 

The Habitat Store - Gain valuable retail experience! Volunteers needed mornings and afternoons. 

 

Jack O'Connor Center - Contribute to Hunter's and Wildlife education! Decorate classrooms, inventory, or help implement multimedia in the classroom. Volunteers are also needed too.

 

 

BUSINESS CLERICAL

 

 

Lewis - Clark Animal Shelter - Volunteers put your computer skills to work! Clerical work such as typing, bulk mailing, data entry and answering phones.  Training provided.

 

Lewis - Clark Early Childhood Program / Head Start - IMMEDIATELY AND VERY FLEXIBLE!!  Type simple documents on Microsoft Word.

Fit this into your schedule any day M-F, and anytime 8 am to 5 pm.

 

Red Cross - Office volunteers to do typing, data entry, copying, faxing and answering phones.

 

ART & DESIGN

Lewis - Clark Animal Shelter - 'WALL OF FAME'   2-3 Volunteers with artistic talent to work as a team to design and create a wall to commemorate "Kennel Sponsors.

Lewiston Civic Theatre - Design sets, work backstage during performances with lighting and sound.

ADVERTISING & FUNDRAISING

Put on a fundraiser to support your favorite local charity or organization! Contact the LCSC Volunteer Center for ideas and support!

 

 

CARPENTRY & CONSTRUCTION                       

Interlink - Build wheelchair ramps, install grab bars/hand held shower heads, build entry steps, patch cracks in concrete driveways, & other miscellaneous jobs.

Habitat For Humanity - New homes being built beginning Spring 2009! Volunteers needed!

TUTORING & MENTORING

Lewis - Clark Early Childhood Program / Head Start -  Classroom volunteers needed in Lewiston & Clarkston & surrounding areas. Tutor and mentor at-risk students!

Whitman Elementary School - Help Children develop reading skills! Several Volunteers needed for in-classroom help.

YWCA After School Program - Tutor homeless and at-risk children children in math, reading, and other subjects.

Boys and Girls Club - Be a Big Brother or Sister! Have fun mentoring youth with activities in the Games Center, Gym, Teen Center, or Education Center.

KITCHEN HELP

Salvation Army Soup Kitchen - Volunteers needed to prepare, serve food, and clean up. This is a great group activity!

Idaho Veteran's Home - Volunteers to help in the Canteen.  4 hours shifts during the hours 8:30 am - 4 pm.

SOCIAL WORK OCCUPATIONS                    

YWCA - Crisis Line volunteers needed to work from home phone or cell phone.  Training Provided!!

CASA - Be a Court Appointed Special Advocate for a child in need! This position requires a time commitment of 10 hours per month for at least a year. A great opportunity for Social Work Students!   

St. Vincent de Paul - Consult with clients to determine their needs whether it's basic needs or finding community resources.      

 

Special Events

ADOPT A VET - The Veterans Home needs volunteers to remember a vet with cards, gifts, and special visits. An opportunity to serve those who have served our country!

 

JACK O' CONNOR CENTER - Design and paint the education room in a theme keeping with the museum's mission.

JACK O' CONNOR CENTER - DEVELOP EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS!  Use your creativity and skills in designing lesson plans, visual aids, and other teaching tools about wild life and hunting.

JACK O' CONNOR CENTER- CREATE A HANDS ON CHILDREN'S CENTER!  Use your talents to develop a children's learning center with hands on activities related to hunting and animals.

JACK O' CONNOR CENTER - Develop hunter training programs for children.

 

             Clubs and Organization             Group Opportunities

If your campus club or organization would like to arrange a volunteer or community service activity, or for more information, contact Community Warriors coordinator, Lindsey Davies at 792-2194.

 

 

Idaho Fish and Game - ADOPTION PROGRAM 

Your group can adopt a cabin or recreational access on Craig Mountain to care for on your own time.

 

Habitat Store
If you're looking for experience in retail, the Habitat Store is the way to get it.  Volunteers will be involved with the daily operation of the store including sales, displaying merchandise, receiving and picking up donations, and general office duties.  Hours of operation are Wednesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The Habitat Store resells surplus and donated building materials and furniture.  The funds raised will be used to build an additional two to four houses each year.

BLOOD DRIVES
Clubs and organizations are needed to sponsor Red Cross blood drives on campus.  Duties include publicizing the drive and recruiting volunteers and donors.  Red Cross provides comprehensive "how to" materials to make the job easy.   

Salvation Army Soup Kitchen
The Soup Kitchen provides free meals on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday each week.  Volunteers are needed to help prepare and serve meals and clean up.  Food prep shifts run from 3:30 until 5 p.m., serving shifts are from 5 until 6 p.m. and clean up runs from 5:30 until 6:30.

Habitat for Humanity
Get your club together and spend a day helping make a low-income family's dream a reality.  New Habitat for Humanity homes are currently being built in the Lewiston area.  Volunteers are needed to help with all phases of homebuilding including framing walls, painting, installing windows and doors and everything in between.

FIRST BOOK-LCSC
First Book-LCSC provides free books to disadvantaged children in the area served by LCSC.  Sign up your organization to serve on the Campus Advisory Board, review and award book grants, publicize the program and plan and conduct fundraising. 

Interlink Volunteers - Faith in ActioN
Interlink's mission to enable senior citizens and others to live independently in their own homes.  They do this by building wheelchair ramps, installing handrails and fixing stairs, doing yard work, providing minor home repair and light housekeeping.  They are also recruiting volunteers to provide "friendly visiting" to local seniors.

lc vALLEY cIRCLES - Recycle aluminum cans or other metal scraps for Circle members to help pay for gas.
