First Book-LCSC
participates in Family Reading Week Activities
First Book-LCSC is teaming up
with the Lewiston and Grangeville public libraries and will
provide free books to children participating in Idaho Family
Reading Week activities. The books are funded by a grant
from the U.S. Department of Education.
First Book-LCSC
representatives will join Heather Stout from the Lewiston
Public Library to distribute books and take part in reading
events for third, fourth and sixth graders at Webster
Elementary on Nov. 15 at 9:30 a.m. It’s the second such
event this month as LCSC representatives and Stout
distributed nearly 50 books to fifth graders at Lewiston’s
Whitman Elementary School on Nov. 3.
Books also will be provided to
Grangeville Public Library for its family pajama party and
story hour on Nov 16.
Idaho Family Reading Week,
which runs Nov. 13-19, is sponsored by the Idaho State
Library. The project encourages parents and caregivers to
nurture their children’s early literacy skills by reading
with them.
First Book-LCSC works to
promote and facilitate the distribution of books to literacy
programs in the area served by Lewis-Clark State College
including Lapwai, Grangeville, Orofino, Kooskia, Kamiah,
Clarkston, Asotin and surrounding areas. Nationally, the
First Book program has distributed more than 20 million new
books in the last three years.
