Lewis-Clark Early Childhood
Education - 2,700 books
Non-profit organizations that
provides early childhood education and family support for
limited income families through Head Start and Early Head
Start since 1966. Grant serves 500 pre-K children in
Idaho.
Boys & Girls Club
Kindergarten Program - 264
books
The kindergarten program
supports 44 students in Lewiston and Clarkston. Books
will be used in the classroom and given to the children.
Nezperce Elementary - 228
books
Before school homework help
program will be used in a before school homework room.
National Honor Society members and adult volunteers will
read with the children in the literacy program. The
grant benefits 38 children in grades K-6.
YWCA Reading Program -
450
books
Kids Club after school program
helps many children who have been identified as "at-risk" of
school failure. Grant will assist 75 children from
Pre-K through high school.
Grangeville Elementary -
1,320 books
Work with local hospitals,
high school teen living classes, preschools and community
programs to encourage early literacy and the importance of
reading to very young children. This grant benefits
195 students from pre-K through 1st grade.
Nez Perce Early Childhood
Development Program-Kamiah - 228 books
Books will support early
literacy with age appropriate books and activities.
They will be distributed during open house. The grant
will assist 38 Pre-K children.
Nez Perce Early Childhood
Development Program-Lapwai - 942 books
Provides a community based,
multi-cultural environment which includes quality,
comprehensive age appropriate services for 157 children from
birth to five years of age living on or near the Nez Perce
Reservation.
Kooskia Discovery Center -

This after
school program provides a positive environment and a safe
place for children K-6 to go after their regular classes.
The children receive academic help daily and participate in
enriching activities.
SMART Foundation -

Start Making a Reader Today
supports early childhood literacy by educating parents on
the importance of early literacy development. Books
are used to provide Birth to Five literacy packets,
KinderKarnival for incoming kindergarteners, literacy
packets for teen parents and literacy visits to day care
facilities.
Whitman Elementary -

Books are used to promote the
Lewiston School District summer reading program and as an
incentive for reaching reading goals. Books are also
distributed before major school breaks (Christmas, spring
break) to promote reading and give students learning
opportunities they may not have had.
Webster Elementary -
792
books
The school's core reading
program is supplemented by the books provided in the grant.
Students use the books to read independently, in partners,
with parents and volunteers. The books are also used
as a reward and to help students with fluency practice,
comprehension skills, pleasure reading and information.
