ASLCSC Senate Meeting Minutes February 20, 2001 The meeting was called to order at 4:32 p.m. Present: Fox, Heath, Lawyer, Ochszner, Oglesby, Skow, Redford, McCoy, Nunez Approval of Minutes of February 13, 2001. Senator Heath made a motion to amend the agenda and move audience time before Dr. Meier's report. Senator Nunez seconded. Motion carried. Audience Time: Various audience members from Technical and Industrial spoke on behalf of Kevin Dodge for Technical Senator. Six of the nine industrial programs were represented - Auto Body, Auto Mechanics, Industrial Mechanics, Agricultural Equipment Technology, Welding, Drafting, Dr. Meier - Last week you may have noticed in the Pathfinder and on list serve the news about a person with infectious Tuberculosis. Dr. Meier thanked Melissa Nelson for keeping everything confidential. This is a highly confidential issue. Students need to be more aware of the disease. Anyone tested will be educated about the disease. Test can show positive but not be infectious tuberculosis. Another issue going on is the budget and student fees. President Wright and VP Sonnen are scheduled to meet with Dr. Meier and Dean Froehlich to do some preliminary work on student fees. There will be a process for student fees to come before all of you for review. He spent a significant amount of time last Friday with the Strategic Planning Team. They are setting goals and strategies at this point. Dr. Meier along with the President and other Vice Presidents were given the opportunity to provide feedback. He stated that he likes the direction that the Strategic Planning is going. Senator Lawyer asked Dr. Meier about the JFAC decision regarding faculty salaries in Idaho. Dr. Meier could not confirm anything about the JFAC decision. Discussion ensued. Mr. Magruder: Repeat announcement about the importance of the Career Fair at Beasley Coliseum in Pullman. 9 am to 3:30 p.m. Free ride from LCSC to Pullman. Sign up in the Career Development Office. Next announcement - SUB Board meets next Wednesday, February 28 at 4:00 p.m. in SUB 225. 143 at Noon. Meeting resumed - 5:20 p.m. Senator Lawyer asked about the procedure to fill the Technical Senator position. Discussion. It was stated that in twenty days if the Senate Majority Leader has not brought a bill before the Senate recommending someone for the position, then any Senator may do so.
