Dr. Meier - Spoke about the budget holdback. Student Affairs staff has put in a lot of effort to increase enrollment. After the 10th day of classes we will know whether or not we have at least maintained the enrollment of fall semester. Dr. Meier announced that the Registrar, Janet Danley, has resigned. Assistant Registrar Ryan Gill will be stepping in as Registrar on an interim basis. Due to a glitch with Datatel, the grade reports did not print the Dean's List or Academic Standing correctly. Letters were sent to students regarding the problem.

Mr. Magruder - He spoke briefly about the events on the spring calendar. Copies of the calendar are available. He is looking forward to the spring semester. Jitterz coffee shop has rearranged slightly to better serve customers. Sodexho Marriott has introduced a new Express Catering Menu with some greatly reduced prices for carryout catering. Orders need to be placed 24 hours in advance. Student Programming Board is showing a movie Wednesday night and they have a band scheduled on January 30th. Coming up on the Intramural/Recreational Sports calendar is a ski trip to Bluewood on January 27th.

Executive Reports:
President Wright - President Wright read a letter from Rita Morris, Provost, regarding a Development of Intellectual Property Policy Task Force. The letter indicated two student positions on the task force.

Dr. Meier gave an example of Intellectual Property as being something that a faculty member has developed such as a new curriculum or a computer program. Senators Ochszner and Lawyer volunteered to be on the task force. President Wright also discussed a letter and a draft copy of a bill regarding tax free textbooks that he received from ASBSU Lobbyist Casey Swisher. Discussion ensued.

Committee Reports:
President's Commission on Diversity - Senator Redford reported. The committee is charged with implementing the Cultural Diversity Plan. The committee has found that the plan is incomplete and therefore they are going to change some of the verbiage and make it politically correct. Senator Redford requested some help from the Senate's Diversity Committee. Senator Lawyer stated that the Senate Diversity Committee never really got off the ground last semester. Student clubs were already doing the projects and events they discussed. Therefore, they decided to support those clubs in their Cultural Diversity efforts. Discussion ensued. Senator Redford will pursue the matter with individual senators and student clubs if the Cultural Diversity Committee does not start up again.

Alumni Board - Senator Ochszner reported. The Alumni Board met last week. They said thanks for all the work put in at the Craft Fair. There was a lot of discussion about the Activity Center.

New Business:
Senate Majority Leader Ochszner read a letter of resignation for Senator Alrick. She has a scheduling conflict this semester and will not be able to continue being a senator this semester.

Senate Majority Leader Ochszner asked for nominations for Senate Pro Tem. Senator Fox nominated Senator Skow. Senator McCoy seconded the nomination. Senator Skow accepted the nomination. Senator Skow was voted in as Senate Pro Tem.

Senate Information Reports:
Senator Nunez stated that he has relinquished his position on the Faculty Senate to Senator Redford.

Senator Lawyer announced the lunch with President Zimmerman on Thursday, January 18th. The topic of discussing will be student fees.

Senator Ochszner reminded the Senate that if they want any constitutional changes to be thinking about it now. Changes to the constitution must be advertised at least three weeks before elections and voted on during the elections. Also, senate applications are due Wednesday, January 31st and interviews will take place on February 1.

Audience Time:
President Wright asked Mr. Magruder if there was any official word on when ground breaking would begin on the new activity center. Mr. Magruder stated that we should see more construction done on parking lots throughout the spring semester and actual ground breaking for the activity center to begin after the World Series in July or August.
