ASLCSC Senate Meeting Minutes

November 14, 2000

The meeting was called to order at 4:30 p.m.

Present: Alrick, Lawyer, Ochszner, Skow, Redford, Steinhauer, McCoy, Nunez
Absent: Heath - excused

Approval of Minutes of November 7, 2000: Motion Senator Redford, Second Senator Nunez
Discussion. Minutes approved.

Mr. Magruder - Reported on the Union Directors Conference that he attended. He toured the WSU facility and the new U of I Commons. The big thing he noticed was their wireless computer service and their wireless laptop loan program . He has already mentioned it to Dan Terrio. It would cost around $250,000 to wire a facility.

Executive Reports:
President Wright - State Board of Education meets at LCSC starting on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. He will invite the other student presidents to attend our round table meeting on Thursday to discuss the upcoming ISA meeting in Boise. So far President Wright, Senator Lawyer, and Senator McCoy plan to attend that meeting.

Vice President Sonnen - She and President Wright met with Gene Straughan. Gene suggested that students write letters to legislators supporting faculty salary increases. Vice President Sonnen handed out a form to collect comments from students regarding making SRI comments about instructors available to students. She then handed out a sheet of the club proposals for concessions at the craft fair. She asked everyone to rank the proposals from 1-3 and the lower 2 numbers would get to have concessions.

Committee Reports:
Curriculum Committee - Justice Tim Richel reported. The committee has passed some more new courses and the Social Science Major is being redesigned. Natural Science has submitted some new course proposals and revisions. Please see the Curriculum Committee binder.

Alumni Committee - Senator Ochszner reported. Most of the discussion at the last meeting was regarding the Permanent Bulding Fund Council's recommended cutbacks to the Activity Center budget. The committee would like to see the students get involved to help support the Activity 
Center budget.

Administrative Procedures Committee - Senator Redford reported that the next meeting is on
November 27th. Discussion ensued regarding the makeup of the Faculty Senate and whether or not to push for 2 student representatives on the Faculty Senate. The consensus was to push for 2 students.

New Business:
Senate Bill 00-F020, Senator Lawyer - amend bill to read "the expenditure will come from the General Account". Motion to accept amendment Senator Alrick, Second Senator Redford.
Motion to approve, Senator Alrick, Second Senator Nunez. 8 yes 1 abstention. Bill passed.

Senate Bill 00-F021, Motion to amend to read "the expenditure will come from the General Account", Senator Steinhauer, Second Senator Nunez.
Motion to approve, Senator Alrick, Second Senator McCoy. 5 yes, 4 abstentions. Bill passed.

Senate Bill 00-F022 - Motion to approve Senator McCoy, Second Senator Skow. 9 yes. Bill passed.

Senate Information Reports:
Justice Tim Richel reported their ruling regarding the outreach sites in relation to Student Government. In short, they ruled that ASLCSC only involved on-campus students. The Outreach sites could form their own Student Government but could not vote in ours. See complete ruling on the Judicial web page.

Senator Ochszner - Ethics needs to meet before Monday. Please set date and time.

Vice President Sonnen - ASLCSC Funding proposals are due on Monday, November 20, 2000.

Audience Time:
Vice President Sonnen - Kevin Dodge, and industrial student, spoke to her about the technical core classes. He plans to write a letter to try to get core classes changed or eliminated to better support the field of study. Discussion ensued. Vice President Sonnen plans to write a resolution in support of
Mr. Dodge's letter.

Senator Lawyer spoke about a National State Student Association Development Conference in Long Beach California on February 22-25.

Motion to adjourn - Senator Fox, Senator Skow Seconded. Meeting adjourned at 5:30 p.m.
