ASLCSC Senate Meeting Minutes

September 5, 2000

The meeting was called to order at 4:33 p.m.

Present: Alrick, Arthur, Heath, Lawyer, Nunez, Ochszner, Skow
Absent: McCoy, Steinhauer

Approval of Minutes of August 29, 2000: Motion Senator Alrick, Second Senator Heath
Discussion, Minutes approved as written.

Executive Reports:
President Wright provided a handout and discussed the Idaho Student Association.

Vice President Sonnen gave the September Budget Report. The budget "board" will be kept in the Executive Office and the Budget Status Report from LCSC Budget Director, Whitney Pugh, will be kept on a clip-board by the mailboxes.

Committee Reports:
Ethics Committee - Senate Majority Leader Ochszner asked for nominations for Chair of the Ethics Committee. 
Senator Nunez nominated Senator Arthur.  Senator Arthur accepted.
Senator Alrick nominated Senator Lawyer.  Senator Lawyer accepted.
Senator Arthur requested a secret ballot vote.
Senator Arthur was chosen chair by majority vote

Craft Fair - Vice President Sonnen reported that the committee voted to lower the booth cost to $45. She will write a bill for next Senate Meeting.

Senate Information Reports:
Senate Majority Leader Ochszner stated that the completed applications for Technical Senator are located at his desk if anyone wants to review them.

Senator Skow reported his findings regarding printers. He checked with Black & Vails and Staples. The best buy was located at Staples for approximately $500.

Mr. Magruder - Asked for clarification on Communications Board members. Senator Skow will be the ex-officio member and Senator Heath will be a student member.

Audience:
Senator Lawyer
- asked about the Media Relations Committee as stated in the Policies and Procedures. President Wright gave his interpretation that Media Relations is part of the Executive Branch and not subject to Senate committees. Discussion ensued. Senate Majority Leader Ochszner requested that the Judicial Branch make a decision concerning a "Media Relations Committee."

Chief Justice Peterson stated that the Judicial Branch will present the Election Code to the Senate in two weeks. They will also give a report on possible electronic voting.

Motion to adjourn - Senator Nunez. Senator Alrick Seconded. Meeting adjourned at 5:10 p.m.
