Brandon Lytle- Andy Grammer at 11:30 in the Amphitheatre on Thursday. Pool tourney at noon that same day. Friday bowling from 8-midnight at Lancers. All-day Softball Tourney at Sunset Park, get teams in by Wednesday at 5pm.

LCSC Administration Communications

Provost Fernandez: reported that SBOE met last week and approved the 5% student fee increase. Idaho Technology Incentive Grant Program, LCSC was awarded 127% of their allotted amounts which was over $200,000 for technology. This compares to other institutions who were awarded on average 20-30% of their grants for funding. There remains $600,000 still on the table that is available for all institutions to apply for. Virtually all grants that were applied for were awarded except for one. The grant that wasn’t fully awarded was to make lectures available through I-Tunes; the State Board thought that most students already have a MP3 or I-Pod. They did award $50,000 for that grant and most will be general education courses.  Discussed the threat incident last Friday. 9pm Thursday night there had been reports of threats. The student was apprehended that morning, if you missed class that day you shouldn’t have to worry about it too much. Good news is that the information system in place worked fairly well for the most part. Need to talk to students for ways to inform them better. At the time that campus was closed there were signs put up and there were emails sent out but some students did not get the word. Need to work on better ways of communicating with students. Any suggestions please give them to Ernie, Vice President Herbst or Provost Fernandez.

Executive Communications

President Bloomsburg- Reported that LCSC got what they wanted at the SBOE meeting last week. That was all.

Vice-President Smith- Talked about the minutes from the CDA trip and the fact that there was no roll call in the minutes. Stated that there was a roll call vote that was not done on tape and wasn’t available to Myndie when she was doing the minutes. Also stated that he wanted to make sure that everyone was reading the minutes before approval. Reported that the Graduation Committee met. Reported that things are going pretty well, have decorations, some entertainment was worked out today.

Myndie reported that the recording on the meeting was very poor and she had a hard time getting any information from the recording. Also stated that no roll call was presented to her. Senator Estes changed vote to no. Motion to bring minutes back up to a vote Senator Fragnella, second Senator Diaz. Unanimous. Motion to table the minutes Senator Fragnella, second Senator Diaz. Unanimous. Minutes tabled.

Committees Director Gray- Announced that he would like to make himself available for committees that need assistance. Anyone interested get his phone number. Asked that people get hold of him in advance so he can make sure he is available.

Media Relations Director Sherpa- Graduation tickets available until May 11. Talked about CDA students sending articles to the Pathfinder and maybe having a CDA staff writer last week at the meeting in CDA. Will have to talk to Myndie and Matt about how that would work. Matt Wilson is willing to have a CDA section and is willing to send the Pathfinder to CDA next semester.

Judicial Communications

Chief Justice Vaughan- Official results are pending due to some complaints that have been filed and will be cleared up by the end of the week. Will have the results by Thursday. VP Smith asked if the unofficial winners should turn in their letter of intent as it is due Friday.

Committee Reports

Safety Meeting: Senator McKee reported that the Committee had its first meeting today. Talking about getting a webpage set up for safety reports. Also talked about the incident last week and stated that the phone tree worked really well for staff and faculty. One of his biggest concerns was how to get the information to students. Reported that he received word that this had happened and he looked into it and started calling people that he knew would be coming to campus. Discussing having one more meeting before summer but this will be an ongoing committee.

4:50 pm: Senator Ojeda passed the gavel to Senator Frei as she had to leave.

COMM Board: Brandon reported that he thought the Board had been rescheduled for this Friday but nothing has been sent out. Not aware if the candidates have been notified.

Old Business

None.

New Business

          Nothing.

Senate Information Reports

Kellen Christianson: Thanked the group for allowing him to come speak. He is the Vice President of the Information Systems Analysis Club. The weekend prior to last they went down to Boise for the Idaho State Skills USA Championships. Had two contestants (Abe Valdez and Kellen) get gold medals and will be able to go to nationals the last week of June in Kansas City. Good opportunity to represent LCSC. Having difficulty raising money and need $1300 per student to send them to nationals. Two students and an advisor are going. T & I will be covering the advisors expenses. Approaching this body for assistance to attend the competition. Have approached other areas on campus for assistance. The competition is June 24-June 30. This is the first year the ISA Club has sent students to this competition. Were able to attend the Skills USA in Boise because of the Co-Curricular grant but account is nearly exhausted from that competition. Most of the other grant funding opportunities had already passed by the time they had won the competition. They have arranged the hotel stays in conjunction with the high school winners to save money. VP Smith stated that if someone was interested in sponsoring a bill they should write one for the next meeting.

Audience Time

VP Smith: reported that he was approached by Jimmie O’Harra. The Web Development Club is also in need of funding. Had previously discussed payment for the LCSC Books website and no amount was ever decided on for the site. Will be sponsoring a bill for next week.

Ernie Williams stated he would like the record to reflect that he congratulated Kellen, his colleagues and his program on a job well done.

AJ Ramirez stated that the Seaport River Run is this weekend. 2.9 mile run / walk. Starts at Swallows Park at 10am ends at Hellsgate. There will be boats to take runners back to Swallows Park after the run.

Senator Diaz reported that due to the lack of participation in the Nights of Stuff auditions they are extending auditions. Auditions will be held this Thursday and next Thursday. It will now be a Night of Stuff on May 11.

Adjournment

Motion to adjourn Senator Arnzen, second Senator McKee. Unanimous. Meeting adjourned at 5:05 pm.

Respectfully Submitted by: Myndie VanHorn
