Call to order

The meeting was called to order at 4:30 p.m.

 

Roll Call

Present: Senators Arnzen, Astle, Diaz, Estes, Filler, Fragnella, Frei, McKee, Ojeda. President Bloomsburg, Vice President Smith, Media Relations Director Sherpa, Committees Director Gray, Chief Justice Vaughan, Associate Justice Wittman, Associate Justice Zipse, Associate Justice Ramirez, Associate Justice Curd.

Audience: Ernie Williams, Brandon Lytle, Andy Hanson, Senate Secretary Myndie VanHorn.

 

Approval of Minutes:

Minutes for March 27, 2007. Motion to approve Senator Frei, second Senator Arnzen. Unanimous.

 

Student Government Advisor

          Ernie Williams- Congratulations to OELA representatives who did the Cesar Chavez Celebration today. Presentation and preparation were very well done.

 

Student Activities Coordinator

          Brandon Lytle- Roller-skating at the Rollaway 6:30 tomorrow, ID’s get in free. 4-on-4 Volleyball registration due Friday by 5pm.

 

LCSC Administration Communications

          Andy Hanson- Provost couldn’t be here today he’s at College of Southern Idaho where they are signing the legislation for the new nursing building. Monday April 16, Stewart Tennant who is the Chief Academic Officer for the SBOE and will be touring the campus. Would like to meet with student leaders. Settled on 3:30 pm. Chief Justice Vaughan asked if there was any way students could have input into what field the Nursing Building will be going on.  Dr. Hanson reported that they are getting a committee together and there will be students on the committee.

 

Executive Communications

          President Bloomsburg- CDA trip. Asked if everyone was signed up who was going to go. Deadline is today. Will be going up the 17th, leaving at around 2pm. Will basically do what was done last year. Will either cancel the Senate meeting or have it up there. Institutional Development this Friday at 3pm RCH 112. Ojeda, Estes, Bloomsburg and Smith are on that committee. Make sure you look at the proposals before the meeting.

          Vice-President Smith- Reminder that there is the Student Code of Conduct to look over. Meeting is at noon on Thursday, please look the Code over before the meeting and get back to him. Need to get travel straightened out for CDA and will have to get the SBOE meeting travel lined out as well. If you are traveling by yourself you will be responsible for doing the paperwork yourself. SBOE will be April 19 and 20th.

          Committees Director Gray- Reminder to put meetings on the board.

          Media Relations Director Sherpa- Next week will be the last week for ASLCSC member profiles. This week will be James Gray and Dustin Wittman.

 

Judicial Communications

          Chief Justice Vaughan- Tomorrow is the forum at noon. Senators Frei and Fragnella will be there. Said Media Relations Director did a good job emailing professors, several professors are giving extra credit to those who attend. Elections next week, BBQ. ID’s are required for voting. Sign up on the board if you want to be at this forum.

 

Committee Reports

Legacy Committee: VP Smith reported. Discussion about this year’s legacy project and whether or not they will be able to get the IED’s. Discussed the Doc Sears Legacy. Artist had heart surgery and the committee is hoping that things will be on schedule for Dogwood. Brandon reminded the group that they should get hold of Doc’s kids. Advised them to contact the children individually.

Graduation: Stunt Runt will be doing the DJ’ing. Tickets for the Banquet are not yet available. Myndie is waiting on the Graduate list. They should be available by the end of the week.

          Senate Bill 07-S048: Election Day BBQ Funding.  Senator Diaz motion for friendly, second Senator Fragnella for line 24 to read “ASLCSC.” Unanimous. Motion to vote Senator Arnzen, second Senator Frei. Roll call vote: 9 Yes, 0 No, 0 Abstentions. Bill passed.

Senate Information Reports

          Senator Ojeda: The ILLTA girls had a really good fashion show. Lacked a bit of advertisement. Urged the Senate to go next year if they have it again. Cesar Chavez Day went really well. Ojeda will be one of the interns for Student Action of Farmworkers next year. Will do a presentation soon. 

          Senator Estes: Speech and Debate will be hosting a speech competition on campus April 11 at 6pm in the WCC. Participants will be from different public speaking classes and there will be a dinner. Please show support for the Speech and Debate.

          Dani Diaz reported that Alpha Psi will be hosting a “Nights of Stuff” this year. Has not been held since 2003. Auditions are on April 24. Talent / Variety Show. 10 minute plays and monologues. Need people to sing and dance. Bands. Show will be May 11 and 12th.

 

Audience Time

          Andy Hanson asked where the Student Government will be meeting with Tennant. Decided that this room (SUB 225) would be good if available.
