Call to order

The meeting was called to order at 4:32 p.m. as the agenda was not ready. Senator Allen ran the meeting in Senator Ojeda’s absence.

 

Roll Call

Present: Senators Allen, Arnzen, Astle, Diaz, Filler, Fragnella, Frei, McKee. President Bloomsburg, Vice President Smith, Media Relations Director Sherpa, Committees Director Gray, Chief Justice Vaughan, Associate Justice Ramirez, Associate Justice Curd.

Excused Absent: Senator Ojeda.

Unexcused Absent: Senator Estes.

Audience: Ernie Williams, Brandon Lytle, Mike Bybee, Provost Fernandez, Trudy Alva, Senate Secretary Myndie VanHorn.

 

Approval of Minutes:

Motion for friendly to agenda to read “Approval of the Minutes for February 27, 2007.” Senator Frei, second Senator Fragnella. Motion to vote Senator Fragnella, second Senator Frei. Unanimous.

 

Student Government Advisor

          Ernie Williams- An RN has been hired to replace the LPN. Hired Tina Weathermon BSN RN, has 30 years nursing experience, will be starting in a week. Feeling really good about the quality of the person hired.

 

Student Activities Coordinator

          Brandon Lytle- Roller-skating at 6:30 Wednesday, Bowling at Lancer Lanes Friday at 8pm (free events).

 

LCSC Administration Communications

          Provost Fernandez: reported that the nursing building has been approved by JFAC. Will be getting 16 million if the Governor signs the bill. If you want to know what it will look like, it will look a lot like the NIC Allied Health Building. 165 thousand has been approved to be distributed between ISU, BSU and LCSC to buy manikins to provide students with emergency type situations. Will be buying one this year and may have more money to buy more next year. Recommendation from JFAC is an increase of 8.6% for higher education.   

 

Executive Communications

          Media Relations Director Sherpa- planning for election advertising. Will be meeting with the Judicial Branch on Wednesday at 4:30. Clubs & Orgs Friday.

          Vice-President Smith- Finance Committee met. The proposal that is in front of you is a result of that meeting. Good news: Foam for the legacy project has been delivered and Parks Bronze has been paid off. On its way to being completed. Hoping to have it done by Dogwood Festival. Would like to dedicate it then. Will be mounted on the outside of the Activity Center.  Ways & Means and Ethics next Tuesday after the meeting.

          Committees Director Gray- Will be working on the relationship between the Center for Arts and Student Government.

          President Bloomsburg- Thank you to VP Smith for getting the Legacy Project rolling.

 

Judicial Communications

          Chief Justice Vaughan- Official Candidates were read. Matt Smith, Eric Estes and Clay Long for President. Brock Astle for Vice President. Academic Senator: Tiffany Fragnella, Eugenia Ojeda and Brenn Frei. Technical Senator: Clayton McKee, Joe Filler and Kevin Teats. There were two technical senators who did not show for the meeting and will have to run as write-in candidates. Should have the ballot ready to look over by next Tuesday. Getting the flyers up for the BBQ. Remember to read the election code and make sure you are paying attention to the rules. Would like Outdoor Rec to meet soon. Asked if Ways and Means would be able to meet next Tuesday before the meeting. Reminded the group that the first forum is the 29th at noon in the Solarium.

 

Committee Reports

Finance: Senator Frei met last week and reminded the group that they will be meeting with Trudy after the meeting today.

          Senate Bill 07-S044: ASLCSC Grant Funding.  Motion to vote Senator Astle, second Senator Arnzen. Roll call vote:  8 Yes, 0 No, 0 Abstentions. Bill passed.

          VP Smith advised the Senate that there is an original production opening tomorrow in the Silverthorne at 7:30 thru Sunday (2 pm on Sunday). Show is called “Snapshots.”
