Senate Information Reports

Petition Letters: Senator Ojeda talked about the DREAM Act is and advised that it is now called the “Idaho Student Investment Act.” Will be going before the legislature during Higher Ed week. Advised she will be trying to get 200 signatures from LCSC and will be writing letters to the editor.

VP Smith: advised that there will be Higher Ed Week in January. Need to start thinking about it now because it will happen before the Senate comes back into session. Will be held in Boise.

Senator Kent Johnson reported that a student talked to him before Thanksgiving break. Stated that the student was complaining about the writing lab. There is a limit that states a student can only come to the writing lab three times with the same paper. Students are then referred back to the professor who will refer them back to the writing lab. Senator Estes reported that he works in the writing lab and has never turned someone away. Will check into it. Sometimes what is an issue is that there are not enough peer tutors there.

Diversity Committee: Media Relations Director Sherpa reported they will be meeting Thursday.
