Call to order

The meeting was called to order at 4:30 p.m. by Senator Allen.

 

Roll Call

Present: Senators Allen, Arnzen, Astle, Estes, Frei, Karen Johnson, Kent Johnson, Ojeda. President Bloomsburg, Vice President Smith, Chief Justice Vaughan, Associate Justice Ramirez, Associate Justice Curd.

Excused Absent: Senator Fragnella, Committees Director Gray.  

Audience: Tony Fernandez, Ernie Williams, Brandon Lytle, Senate Secretary Myndie VanHorn.

 

Approval of Minutes:

Approval of the minutes for October 31, 2006. Motion Senator Kent Johnson, second Senator Allen. 9 Yes, 0 no, 0 Abstentions.

 

Student Government Advisor

          Ernie Williams- Congratulated the WEB and the residents of Parrish House for their fast response to being shut down by the Fire Department and moving everything outside. Had almost 700 attendees.

 

Student Activities Coordinator

          Brandon Lytle- Volleyball registration postponed until Thursday at 5 pm. Pool tourney at noon on Thursday. Adam Ace will be in the Silverthorne tonight at 7pm. $5 students, $7 non-students.

 

LCSC Administration Communication

          Tony Fernandez- SBOE is in Pocatello at the end of this month. Will be a long two day meeting for those going the agenda is full. Unit Action Plans are in and being evaluated. These are plans to spend the additional funds the institution may receive next year. Is an ongoing strategic action process that was established a couple years ago. Legislature is continuing to look at establishing a statewide Community College that may affect our campus. This may mean charging student’s community college prices for certain programs at LCSC.

 

Executive Communications

          President Bloomsburg- Discussed the SBOE at the end of this month. Went to the Administrative Procedures meeting yesterday. Mainly what they talked about was the Technical and Industrial Faculty and Library tenure. There is a high rate of turn-over in that faculty. Looking at restructuring the membership of the committees. May end up taking the student seat away from the committee. Will be reviewing the constitution as the people on that committee don’t match up with what the constitution says.

          Vice-President Smith- members of finance the budget was put in your box. Presented the budget.

          Media Relations Director Sherpa- Absent.

 

Judicial Communications

          Chief Justice Vaughan- Ways and Means will be meeting this week to ratify the election code so it can be brought to the Senate.

 

Committee Reports

Ways & Means: Senator Allen stated they would meet briefly after this meeting.   

Ad Hoc Committee: President Bloomsburg stated that he talked to Trudy Alva who told him it wouldn’t be that difficult to set up. Committee should meet again.

 

Old Business

a.    Bill 06-F015: Motion to take off the table by Senator Arnzen, second Senator Frei. 8 Yes, 0 No, 1 Abstention (Senator Astle).  Discussion about the friendly amendments that were made on this before the bill was tabled. Line 5 was amended to “Senate Bill 06-F015”.  Motion to vote, Senator Estes, second Senator Allen. Roll call vote: 2 Yes, 3 No, 3 Abstentions. Bill failed. 

  1. Resolution 06-F001: remained tabled.

 

New Business

          Senate Bill 06-F023: Associate Justice Appointment.  Motion to vote Senator Frei, second Senator Arnzen. Roll call vote:  Unanimous. Bill passed.

President Bloomsburg and Senator Ojeda signed the bill and Chief Justice Vaughan swore in Associate Justice Curd.

Senate Information Reports

         VP Smith stated there is a student affairs meeting in this room on Friday at 8:15. One of the issues they will be discussing is the smoking issue. VP Smith and Senator Kent Johnson are on that committee.

          Senator Kent Johnson stated that the student who needed the reimbursement has been reimbursed and thanked Student Government.

 

Audience Time

          CJ Vaughan stated that she has had a couple of people talk to her about recycling. VP Smith stated that was something that was at the NWSLC last year.

          Senator Allen: stated that there are some issues at the Weight room. There are some complaints. Athletes are just walking in and doing what the please, but the regular students have to have their card.

          Ernie Williams: wanted a radio station update. President Bloomsburg stated that they will be up on the air tomorrow. Were on the air yesterday looping some CD’s for a little while, they are still working some bugs out. Will have to go live because there is only one radio person with a program so far. 88.9 FM.
