Committee Reports

Alumni: Senator Karen Johnson advised that they have set up goodsearch.com that donates 5 cents to the alumni committee every time it is used. Powered by Yahoo. First time you go it will ask who you want to benefit and you just put in LCSC Alumni. Also working on www.icarekits.com. Can go there and order care packages for students.

Clubs and Orgs: VP Smith reported that they met last Friday, had several guests. Brandon presented a travel policy at the meeting. There will be about 15 clubs participating in Warrior Discovery Day.

Faculty Senate: Senator Kent Johnson reported that the biggest thing is possible changes with incompletes. As it currently stands you have one semester to get an incomplete changed which causes problems when the student is graduating. Provost Fernandez added that when you have an incomplete you are “walking” not “graduating” the student may have to reapply to graduate if the coursework is not completed.

Old Business

a.                   Resolution 06-F001- Senator Estes advised to keep it tabled. Legacy Committee is still working on this issue.

b.                   Bill 06-F015- Senator Karen Johnson advised that she gave the list of books to Senators last week. Senator Estes advised that we would have to find out if these books are even available in the bookstore. Bill remained tabled.

New Business

Senate Bill 06-F018: Establish an emergency fund.  Senator Fragnella stated that she thought a Committee should discuss this bill. Senator Kent Johnson stated that this needs more than a bill and replenishment. Thinks it needs to be set up differently. Feels there is some groundwork necessary before this is established. Senator Ojeda passed the gavel to Senator Allen. Senator Ojeda agreed with Senator Kent Johnson. Senator Ojeda took the gavel back. President Bloomsburg stated that this bill might need to be withdrawn and set up an ad hoc committee. There were several comments in regards to the language on the bill. Senator Kent Johnson stated that he thought the bill should be withdrawn and rewritten. Senator Estes stated that they should sit down as a group and hammer out the specifics. VP Smith stated that if this bill were tabled it would leave it as is. If the bill were withdrawn then work could be done on it. Senator Karen Johnson motioned to withdraw the bill, second Senator Kent Johnson. Unanimous. Bill Withdrawn.

Senate Information Reports

Senator Kent Johnson stated that he received a letter regarding the complaint about Student Health and the issue that was brought forth a couple weeks ago. Senator Johnson also read an email from a student regarding the LCSC website and the fact that there are no pictures of non-traditional students on the website. VP Smith stated that he would bring this up to the Presidents Council on Diversity. Provost Fernandez added that they could bring it up to the marketing committee. Reminded the Senior Senators that this issue was also brought up by Laurie last year that the pamphlets that come out are typically younger. Mean age on the campus is 27 according to Provost Fernandez; the average age is coming down. VP Smith added that this is “a funny number” because it starts out at 18 rather than starting at 1.

Audience Time

Brandon Lytle advised that he is working on the travel policy for all clubs that are traveling without an advisor. Each group member will be required to fill out a form before the trip. There will be set steps that will have to be taken. Will also have to have a full-time employee in 24-hour contact with the group.

President Bloomsburg asked who would like to be on the emergency fund ad hoc committee. Senators Kent Johnson, Karen Johnson, Frei, Fragnella and Ojeda volunteered.

Senator Allen Ways and Means after Finance.
