ASLCSC Senate Meeting Minutes

February 13, 2001

The meeting was called to order at 4:30 p.m.

Present: Fox, Heath, Lawyer, Ochszner, Skow, Redford, McCoy, Nunez

Senator Lawyer made a motion to amend the agenda to include Bill #01-S035 and Resolution #01-S009.
Senator McCoy seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Approval of Minutes of February 6, 2001.
Motion to pass made by Senator Heath, Seconded by Senator Fox. Minutes approved as written.

Dr. Meier - If you have any issues you would like to bring to his attention, or projects you would like to discuss with him, please do so. His secretary has been asked to try and fit student government members in to his busy schedule. Senator Ochszner asked about the student fee hearing. Dr. Meier replied that a first draft would be brought to student government members in the next couple weeks.

Mr. Magruder: He will be holding two different informational meetings about student government, campaigning, etc. They will be held on February 20th and February 21st in the Clearwater Room of the WCC. Pizza and soda will be served. Judicial is providing 1st and 2nd prize for the person who brings the most students to the meetings.

Executive Reports:
President Wright: Reported on the International Exchange Conference. The committee members felt that the IEC should continue, that it should be only one day instead of two, and that it should be in the fall and not the spring.

Vice President Sonnen: She was at the Advisory Board Meeting for Technical Programs on Monday evening. Further information will be imparted at Thursday's Round Table meeting.

Committee Reports:
Curriculum Committee: Senator Lawyer reported. There are many curriculum changes before the committee. She would like to post flyers around campus stating that students can come to the office and look at the proposed changes and give their input. The changes will be voted on in about two weeks. She asked that it also be put in the Pathfinder. Discussion.

President's Commission on Diversity: Senator Redford reported. They are still working on changes to the Diversity Statement and the Diversity Plan. They have decided to give awards to individuals, or groups who promote and support diversity on campus.

Craft Fair: VP Sonnen reported. The committee recently met and decided to accept pre-registration for the craft fair. They also decided to change the time to end earlier.

Ways & Means: Senator Lawyer asked about the Bylaws disk. Senator Ochszner stated that Ms. Alrick was contacted and she said she would bring the Bylaws disk in tomorrow.

Alumni Board - Senator Ochszner stated that this week's meeting was cancelled.

Old Business:
Senate Bill #01-S032, Motion Senator Health, Second Senator Lawyer. Vote - 3 No, 5 yes. Bill failed.

Senate Bill #01-S034, Motion Senator Heath, Second Senator Fox. Discussion. 5 no, 3 yes. Bill failed.

Senate Resolution #01-2008, Motion Senator Lawyer, Second Senator McCoy. Discussion.
Vote - 5 yes, 1 no, 3 abstentions. Resolution failed.

New Business:
Senate Bill #01-S035, Motion Senator Heath, Second Senator Nunez. Discussion. 8 yes Bill passed.

Senate Bill #01-S036, Motion Senator Heath, Second Senator McCoy. Vote - 7 yes, 1 No Bill passed.

Senate Resolution #01-S009, Motion Senator Heath, Second Senator McCoy. Vote - 8 yes. Resolution passed.

Senate Information Reports:

Dr. Meier stated that the Nez Perce Tribe has contributed $350, 000 to the college and plans to make a substantial contribution to the Activity Center.

VP Sonnen - Encouraged students to attend the "brown bag" lunch time colloquium on the Liberal Arts Advantage. Discussion on developing marketable skills for careers through the disciplines of Fine Arts, Science, Literature, Language, Philosophy, History will take place on Monday, March 5th at Noon in the WCC.

Audience Time:
Kevin Dodge - Reported on the Technical and Industrial Fair. They gave tours to over 700 high school students. He felt that approximately 70% were truly interested in the programs.

Senator Lawyer - Asked a procedural question regarding the Technical Senator position. Will the Senate vote again next Tuesday? It will be discussed at Thursday Round Table.

Justin Schultz - Stated that he would like to withdraw his application for Technical Senator. He encouraged the Senate to reconsider Kevin Dodge for the position.

Motion to adjourn, Senator Fox, Second Senator Heath. Meeting Adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
