President Wright brought up the International Exchange Conference. He asked for feedback on whether or not the Senate felt that the conference should continue. Discussion ensued. Most of the comments were that the conference was a good thing, but should be aimed more at student. Two people commented that the conference was a waste of money. President Wright will report this back to the committee.
Dr. Meier - Reported that he was in Boise last week at State Boards and JFAC. He stated that Dr. Zimmerman did a good job representing LCSC at JFAC which is held in the State Supreme Court Chambers. He commented on how the committee is made up of mostly elderly men and very few women. Dr. Meier informed the Senate that his staff has been working on a revamped version of orientation. Orientation will eventually have a direct tie-in with an SD 100 course which will include how to navigate through college, as well as, personal and developmental assessment. This SD 100 course could eventually become part of the core or a graduation requirement. With the revamping of orientation, they plan on using peers, such as ASB members) to assist. Senator Lawyer asked if the SD 100 course would replace anything in the current core requirements. Dr. Meier explained that they haven't gotten that far yet. It's still in the planning stages. Vice President Sonnen asked about the cost of orientation being a separate charge to the student.
LCSC Center for Arts & History - Senator Heath stated that she is meeting Carlton Oakes on Wednesday. They will be discussing the Dogwood Festival. Senator Heath asked if any senators wanted to volunteer to help with the festival. A few responded. There was much discussion regarding ASLCSC having a free booth at the festival in exchange for the Center Circle Volunteers having a booth at the Craft Fair. It was suggested that if ASLCSC doesn't use that free booth that it could be given to another club. Senator Heath will get the particulars from Mr. Oakes at their meeting.
Senator McCoy announced that there would be an AA meeting Wednesdays at noon in the Gym Annex. Good job Senator Lawyer.
Development of Intellectual Property Policy Task Force - Senator Ochszner reported on this task force. They have drafted a policy which Senator Ochszner will make available on the table in the office.
