ASLCSC Senate Meeting Minutes

November 30, 2004

 

The meeting was called to order at 4:30 p.m.

 

Present:  Senators Bybee, Caines, Coleman, Johnson, King, Munguia, Nicholes, Racich, Rodgers,

              President Martinez, VP Wak Wak, Chief Justice Mosher, Senate Secretary Laura Wilson

 

Absent:  Senator Bahlman, Mr. Williams, Mr. Smith, Mr. Lytle

 

·         Senate Majority Leader Rodgers read a letter of resignation from Senator Bahlman.  He explained that he did not wish to fill the position this late in the semester, but would do so when the semester began next spring.

 

Minutes:  November 9, 2004, Motion to approve Senator Johnson, Second Senator Racich.  Minutes passed.

 

Executive Communications: 

·         President Martinez:  *Briefly discussed the “interesting” leadership conference in Portland.  *The T-Shirts are in and available for sale.  *The deadline for Santa’s Helpers donations is Wednesday, December 8.  If anyone has any loose change they would like to donate, now would be the time.

 

Judicial Communications:

·         Chief Justice Mosher:  Briefly discussed the copy of the Election Code she had placed in everyone’s mailbox for review.  She stated that it is now up to the Senate to review it and approve it.

            After some discussion it was moved by Senator Coleman and second by Senator Johnson to approve the

            2004-2005 Election Code.  Vote:  8 yes, 0 no, 1 abstention..  Election code passed.

 

Committee Reports: 

·         Clubs & Orgs. Council:  Senator Caines reported.  He is preparing the agenda for the meeting on Friday, December 3.  The two primary items he has are health insurance and a policy meeting for the folling Friday.  He asked for input of additional agenda items.

·         Ethics Committee:  Senator Caines requested that the Ethics Committee meet following this meeting.

·         Book Exchange:  Senator Bybee reported.  The next meeting is on Friday at 10:00 a.m.  He encouraged anyone who planned to volunteer to attend the meeting to learn how to check in books.

·         Santa’s Helpers:  Senator Rodgers reported.  Next meeting will tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. in the ASLCSC Office.

·         Craft Fair:  VP Wak Wak reported:  All of the spaces are full.  Help is needed for set-up.  We will have some help from the Rugby and Ambassador Clubs, however, more help is needed.

 

Old Business:

·         Senate Bill 04-F022, Motion to approve Senator Johnson, Second Senator Nicholes.  Discussion ensued.

            Motion to table until further Judicial ruling and further information Senator Coleman, Second Senator

            Johnson.  Motion carries.

·         Senate Bill 04-F026, Motion to suspend reading Senator Nichols, Second Senator Johnson.  Motion failed.

            Motion to approve bill, Senator Munguia, Second Senator Nichols.  Discussion ensued. 

            Vote:  8 yes, 0 no, 1 abstention.  Bill passed.

·         Senate Bill 04-F027, Motion to approve Senator Nicholes, Second Senator Bybee.  Discussion ensued. 

            Vote:  9 yes.  Bill passed.

·         Senate Bill 04-F028, Motion to approve Senator Coleman, Second Senator Nicholes.  Discussion ensued.         Vote:  9 yes.  Bill passed.

 

New Business:

·         Senate Bill 04-F029, Motion to approve, Senator Johnson, Second Senator King.  Discussion ensued. 

            Vote:  9 yes.  Bill passed.

·         Senate Bill 04-F030, Motion to approve, Senator Caines, Second Senator Bybee.  Discussion ensued. 

            Vote:  9 yes.  Bill passed.

·         Senate Bill 04-F031, Motion to approve, Senator Johnson, Second Senator Munguia.  Discussion ensued. 

            Vote:  9 yes.  Bill passed.

 

Senate Information Reports: 

·         Senator Rodgers:  Briefly discussed the “National Tuition Endowment” that everyone had been emailed about.  To be discussed at a future meeting.

 

Audience:

·         Matt Smith:  Men’s & Women’s Rugby Clubs are doing a food drive through December 20th.

 

Motion to adjourn Senator Caines, Second Senator Johnson.  Meeting Adjourned  6:10 p.m.
