Committee Reports
ITPG-13: President
Racich reported that she needs to meet with Senators Bybee and Mewes after the
meeting. The committee was pleased with the outcome of the
Senate part and have another request for further assistance.
Math Lab Committee: President Racich reported that she has tentatively put a few names on a
list for the committee. Media Relations Director Rohde, Senator Ojeda, AJ
Crenshaw, AJ Barta. The purpose of this committee is to discuss problems in the
math lab. The math lab is facing a lot of funding issues and there is not
enough time open, enough tutors and there is not enough room in the lab. Hoping to get Senate input for suggestions, if anyone else is
interested in helping on this committee feel free to let her know.
Senator Smith added that the Diversity Committee is looking at some of the math
lab issues. He would not mind being on the committee so he can relay some of
the information to the Diversity Committee.
Ways & Means: Senator Ramirez reported that they met last Thursday to work on the
grievance section of the Bylaws. Will be meeting again today.
Clubs & Orgs: Senator Smith reported that there was a meeting last Friday. Polly
Blasko spoke about fundraising. Bert Sahlberg spoke
about advertising and how clubs could get their events advertised on campus.
Also discussed club re-recognition and let the clubs know who still needed to
turn in information. Jimmie O’Harra explained the website and how it is being
updated and how the clubs can take advantage of that website. Next two meetings
will be held November 18 and December 16 at 10 a.m. in the Library TCC.
Discussed the Diversity Committee and invited clubs to participate in that
committee.
Diversity: Senator
Smith reported. Pleased to see there was more outside involvement with some of
the clubs and are hoping to continue to get the word out. Also
discussed getting the policies and procedures “worked on.” Senator
Ramirez added that are hoping to make it a requirement for other clubs such as
CAMP and OELA and other groups that have a diverse membership to be involved in
the Committee. Discussion ensued about a bill being written to give funding to
Media Relations for advertisement for diverse clubs who need advertisement for
events so the Diversity Committee can sponsor and promote diverse events on
campus.
Legacy: Senator
Rawson reported. Discussed the defibrillators and the costs, found that they
run from $1100-$2000. Can sometimes find deals on refurbished defibrillators
that run from $800-$1000. Found that the coin-operated copiers run $300 a month
and the ones that are already on the campus have a hard-time paying for
themselves. As for the bricks, they have been talking about selling the bricks
and what the right venue for that would be. Senator Hanson will be contacting
the Alumni about putting the bricks on the internet auction site. The new part
of the Gym will be opening soon and that would be the opportune time to sell
some of the bricks. We have 100 bricks that have plaques on them. Ernie
Williams volunteered that Cindy Durgan is in charge
of the auction site for athletics and should be the one contacted. Talking
about reducing the price of the bricks to $10, but that is not official at this
point. Will be talking about the Doc Sears legacy project at
the next meeting. Senator Smith asked that any information that
President Racich has about the Doc Sears project be passed on to him.
Faculty Senate: Senator Hanson reported. Provost Fernandez addressed the Faculty Senate
on the issues coming before the legislature as well as pay and tenure. Met with
Student Affairs and discussed Resolution F-002. Senator Johnson added that Bob Sobotta put a call out to the student government asking for
more student involvement in Native American Awareness week.
Curriculum Committee: Senator Johnson reported. Committee met today to
discuss four proposals before them. One is changing the grading system for TRIO
from A, B, C etc. to a Pass / Fail grading system. Another is to change the course
prefix for NS351, Integrative Seminar for Natural Sciences. ENGTE trying to get
two courses added to Engineering Technology Civil emphasis, one being Advanced Survey and the other Advanced Civil Drafting and
Design. All but the Pass / Fail are a ways out from being passed as there is an
investigation process and three readings before the Curriculum Committee before
they can be voted on and sent on to the Faculty Senate.
