8          Whereas:          Student health insurance has been mandated for all fulltime 

9                                  post secondary students within the State of Idaho.

10        Whereas:          The students have one of two options upon registration of classes:

11                                1)  Waive the coverage offered by the institution with proof of

12                                      current insurance possessed by student or

13                                2)  Procure Lewis-Clark State College’s student health insurance

14                                      plan.

15        Whereas:          The student is responsible for payment of such plan.

16        Whereas:          The students pay for the plan and receive the benefits of plan.

17        Whereas:          The current student health insurance plan is inadequate.

18        Whereas:          The majority of complaints about the plan refer to problems

19                                associated with the administration by “PIA”; a subcontractor to

20                                Renaissance Agencies, Inc.

22        THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASLCSC SENATE:

24        Section 1:         That a replacement administrator for “PIA” be implemented.                                                                               

29        Section 2:         That the administration insist: (a) that timely action be taken by the                                                                                                                                                                                                                        

25                               insurance administrator when contacted by the student; (b) that the                                                                                                

26                                campus clinic be allowed to complete insurance forms or make                                                                                               

28                                contact on behalf of the student.

30        Section 3:         That a prescription plan which addresses more than $200 of

31                                medication per semester be provided and the prescription

32                                classification be removed.

33        Section 4:        That a small physical therapy benefit be included if it can be

34                                accomplished without increasing premiums more than 5%.

35        Section 5:        That a concerted effort be made to increase the per injury and / or

36                                per illness maximum dollar benefit from $15,000 to $50,000 

37                                with options for each student to increase the benefits plan if so

38                                desired and pay the additional premiums incurred by choice.

39        Section 6:        This resolution will pass upon a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the

40                                ASLCSC Senate and the signature of the ASLCSC President.
