                                              Resolution        #06-F004

                                                                                            Authored By:  Vice-President Smith

Whereas:  The 2003-2004 Legacy Project Committee (David “Doc” Sears

Memorial Project) still has not been completed.

Whereas:  The ASLCSC still believes that a Memorial of David “Doc” Sears

would benefit LCSC and the surrounding community

Whereas:  To finish the project as originally planned, over $13,000 is still

needed. No new funds have been collected for the project in over

                         twelve months.

Whereas:  The ASLCSC Legacy Committee wishes to complete the project, the 19                       committee has determined the remaining $13,000 is too great of an                       20                         expense for ASLCSC to afford.

Whereas:  The ASLCSC Legacy Committee has explored other more cost

effective options to complete project.  Different materials were

researched such as a Foam Urethane Mimic Bronze material and a

                         Polymer Resin compound.

Whereas:  The ASLCSC Legacy Committee     has decided and voted to complete 28                         the project using the Polymer Resin option. This option is a longer

lasting material than the Foam Urethane Mimic Bronze material.  This

option is considerably less expensive than the original plan of Bronze.

Whereas: The ASLCSC Legacy Committee has found a local sculptor, Ralph

Crawford, who knew David “Doc” Sears and is  very experienced

working with  the Polymer Resin compound.

Whereas:  The ASLCSC Legacy Committee has negotiated the release of

materials needed to complete casting of the sculpture, upon payment

of remaining balance of invoice for work already done.  Parks

Bronze needs the space the foam is occupying for other projects.

Parks Bronze also needs paid for an outstanding balance for work

                          already done to the project.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASLCSC SENATE:

                           as possible.

Section 2:  That the David “Doc” Sears Memorial Project be completed using the 52                          Polymer Resin Compound and the work be done by Ralph Crawford,

Section 3:  That the bill owed to Parks Bronze be paid in full and the foam piece

be delivered by Parks Bronze to Ralph Crawford.

Section 4:   The piece be installed prior to and dedicated at the 2007 Art Under

                          the Elms.
