Fourth Senate                                                       Second Regular Session

                                 In the Senate

                                 Senate Resolution #01-S010
Authored By: Senator Lawyer, Senator Nunez,
                                                         Senator Skow

Whereas: Curriculum Committee has passed the proposal A01-051a.  This
proposal will give to ENGL 101 the status of a pre-requisite course for
               the 150 level courses.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASLCSC SENATE:

Section 1:  We, the Student Senate, see it positive to have ENGL 101 as a
prerequisite course.  However, we oppose the prerequisite of
ENGL 101 for the 150 courses.
The ASLCSC believes an action such as A01-051a would be limiting
student's academic achievement.  Often with only one section of core
classes offered this action would limit incoming freshmen and
sophomores with their availability to fulfill twelve credits in addition
to using 150 level classes.  LCSC has a number of students who
arrange their class schedules around work and family schedules, this
action would also limit their ability to arrange workable schedules.

Section 2:  Concerning the co-requisite option, the ASLCSC Senate believes if a
student drops English 101 that removing a student from 150 level
classes would be detrimental to their success.

Section 3: This resolution will pass upon a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the
ASLCSC Senate and the signature of the ASLCSC President
