Warriors Take First in Hawaii Tourn.

The Lewis-Clark State College Warriors defeated Hawaii Pacific, 13-0, in a game shortened to seven innings by the 12-run rule, to claim the White Division Championship of the 26th Annual Verizon Rainbow Easter Baseball Tournament, at Honolulu, HI. The White Division consisted of non-NCAA Division I teams: Lewis-Clark State, Division II’s Hawaii Pacific, and Kita-Kyushu University of Japan. UC-Santa Barbara won the Green Division Championship defeating Hawaii, 7-6, in 11 innings. Wichita State finished third and Centenary placed fourth.

The Warriors (29-7) completed a 5-2 week, defeating Hawaii Pacific three times, and NCAA Division I teams Wichita State and Centenary once. The University of Hawaii and UC-Santa Barbara posted wins over Lewis-Clark State.

Yoshi Kimura (Saga, Japan) was named Most Outstanding Player in the tournament after posting a .520 (13-25) batting average. He tallied four doubles, one triple and one home run, while driving in a tournament-best 12 runs.

Named to the All-Tournament team were outfielder Matt Hellman (Burbank, CA), shortstop Kimura, and pitcher J.R. Crider (Phoenix, AZ). Hellman batted .426 and Crider posted a 2-0 record with a 0.69 ERA and registered 12 strikeouts.

The Warriors host Gonzaga University on Wednesday, April 4th, at 6:00 PM, at Harris Field.
