Kimura Powers L-C to a 14-6 Win
LEWISTON,ID--Top-ranked Lewis-Clark State College defeated British Columbia, 14-6, in an NAIA collegiate baseball game, played Sunday, at Harris Field.
Warrior shortstop Yoshi Kimura drove in half of the runs as he hit three home runs, a solo in the fourth, a two-run job in the second, and a grand slam in the eighth.
The Warriors (21-5) got on the board first, on Mike Madrids solo homer and two batters later, Kimuras shot, to take a 3-0 lead. L-C ace Chris Mabeus (4-0) gave up a solo homer to Thunderbird right fielder Spencer Barnard in the top half of the third. Mabeus struck out a season-high nine batters.
L-C had to hold off UBC (13-11) as the TBirds tallied four runs in the seventh to draw within one run. But the Warriros would tack on eight runs in the next two innings to secure the victory.
Starter John Campbell (1-1) picked up the loss for UBC.
The Warriors will now hit the road, travelling first to Olympia, WA, for Thursday and Friday games against Saint Martins College, before venturing out to the Islands to defend their Rainbow Easter Baseball Tournament title.
