Bulldogs blank Warriors, 1-0
LEWISTON,ID--The Gonzaga Bulldogs rode the arms of five different pitchers who combined on a two-hit shut out win over the top-ranked team in NAIA baseball, Lewis-Clark State, 1-0, at Harris Field, Wednesday night.
The lone run came in the fifth inning as Nate Gold ripped a solo home run deep over the left field fence off of Warrior starter Nick Gravelle (5-2). Greg Brooks (1-0) pitched two innings of one-hit baseball to earn the victory for Gonzaga (13-15). Eric Everson mopped up in the final two frames, striking out four of the six batters he faced, to pick up his second save of the year.
Matt Hellman and Kurt Koshelnik had the only hits for Lewis-Clark State (29-8).
This was the first time LCSC has been shut out at home since April, 19, 1994. Ironically, it was against Gonzaga, 5-0. The last time the Warriors were shut out was February 16, 1999, at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, 4-0.
