Hellman's Homer Lifts LCSC by WSU, 10-7

LEWISTON,ID--Matt Hellman (Burbank, CA) blasted three-run home run to left center in the bottom of ninth, with one out, to power the Lewis-Clark State College Warriors to a 10-7 win over Washington State University, Tuesday night, at Harris Field.

The top-ranked NAIA Warriors (34-8) scored eight of its ten runs in the final three innings. After the Cougars (12-22) tied the game at two apiece in the top of the seventh, LCSC went on a scoring barrage, plating five runs, to take a 7-2 advantage.

Brandon O’Leary (Portland, OR) led off the inning with a home run to right center. Two errors by WSU players helped set the table for Nick Bullen’s (Twin Falls, ID) blast over the center field wall.

But the Cougars would not go quietly. In the top of the eighth, Washington State would counter with five runs. Bookie Gates had a two-run single up the middle off of reliever J.R. Wes Hutchison (Burbank, CA) picked up his second win in four decisions. Nick Kenyon (0-2) picked up the loss in relief.
