Warriors Rout Cougars, 12-0
LEWISTON,ID--Three Lewis-Clark State pitchers combined to toss a seven-hit shutout in a 12-0 rout of NCAA Division I member, Washington State, Saturday afternoon at Harris Field.
The Warriors (48-12), were led by Chris Mabeus seven inning, five-hit performance, which secures his eight win against no losses, and moves his career mark to 19-0. Michael Chavez and Ricky Bostick each threw an inning in relief to preserve the shutout.
Second-ranked LCSC wasted little time in jumping on Cougar starter Justin Cayetano (3-3). Brendan Ryan led off the inning with a triple down the right field line, extending his hitting streak to 13 games. Kurt Koshelnik, the next batter, drove Ryan in with a base hit up the middle. A fielders choice later scored Koshelnik.
The Warriors put the game away in the third with a five-run outburst. Nick Walker led off the inning with a double and three batters later, Jay Knowlton walked with the bases loaded. Yoshi Kimura then unloaded the bases with a double to left center, just shy of a grand slam.
Brandon Reddinger led Washington State (15-31) with three hits. This was the first time the Cougars have been shut out all season.
The same two teams go head-to-head in Pullman, at 2:00 P.M., tomorrow.
