Wildcats Down Warriors 15-14 on Ninth Inning Grand Slam
LEWISTON,ID--Seth Hill hit a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth to power Central Washington University to a 15-14 upset over the NAIA’s top-ranked Lewis-Clark State College Saturday afternoon, at Harris Field. CWU is in their first season as a NCAA Division II program. Today's win was Central's first over LCSC since April 2, 1999, and their first win at Harris Field since February 28, 1998.
Jace Dwinell hit a pair of home runs, a two-run shot in the second and a solo shot in the sixth, while Brandon Templer collected four hits, including a double and a home run, and drove in four runs, to lead Central Washington (1-1). Relief pitcher Rob Stumph (1-0) came in and pitched two strong innings, allowing only a pinch hit home run, while striking out two Warriors.
Mark Gallagher blasted two more home runs to run his total, on the season, to five. His three-run shot tied the game at four, in the second inning. Gallagher hit another homer, a solo shot, in his next at bat, in the third inning. Tyler Best hit his first career home run today, a pair of singles, and drove in three runs. Zeph Zinsman went 3-for-5 with a double.
The Warriors committed three errors, leading to five unearned runs. One of the NAIA’s top pitchers, Collin Perschon, gave up seven hits and eight runs, four earned, in five innings of work. He struck out six and hit two batters.
The same two teams will meet tomorrow at 1:00 PM.
