Haven Powers L-C by Saint Martin's, 3-0
LEWISTON,ID--Tory Haven belted two solo home runs to power top-ranked (NAIA) Lewis-Clark State College past Saint Martin’s College, 3-0, in the first round of the Lewis-Clark State College Tournament, Friday afternoon, at Harris Field. Haven also drove in all three of the Warriors’ runs.
Andy Torres raised his record to 4-0 on the season after hurling five innings of three hit ball for Lewis-Clark State (15-4). He also registered four strikeouts. Patrick Bailes mopped up for two innings to earn his first save of the year. Micah Furtado and Mike Madrid each had a pair of singles.
Shawn Dunaway and Dan Muraira each had a pair of base hits for Saint Martin’s College (2-10). Jon Corkery (0-3) pitched a strong eight innings.
In the late game, the University of British Columbia (9-7) rolled to a 16-8 win over Saint Martin’s College (2-11). Mark Zamojc went 3-for-4 with six RBI, including a monstrous three-run home run off the scoreboard in right field. Jeff Brewer (1-2) was credited with the win. Dunaway continued to hit the ball well for the Saints, picking up a pair of doubles. Matt Chubb (1-3) picked up the loss for Saint Martin’s.
Saint Martin’s College takes on the University of British Columbia at 12:00 PM tomorrow, while Lewis-Clark State will host UBC approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. The tournament wraps up on Sunday.
