Zamojc and Francis Lead UBC Past LCSC, 5-3
LEWISTON,ID--Mark Zamojc hit a two-run home run in the top of the sixth and ace Jeff Francis struck out nine as the University of British Columbia defeated Lewis-Clark State College, 5-3, Saturday afternoon, at Harris Field, in the second round of the Lewis-Clark State College Tournament.
Zamojc hit his fifth home run of the season off of Warrior reliever Nick Seely, and put British Columbia (11-7) ahead, 5-0. UBC got on the board, first, with three runs in the second inning off of LCSC starter Collin Perschon (2-1). Mark Dunstan doubled down the right field line and Chad Tuck singled though the left side, plating Dunstan, then advanced to second on a throwing error by Warrior right fielder Tory Haven. Matt Kittleson followed with a double to right field, scoring courtesy runner Chris Ames from second. Adam Campbell followed with an RBI single.
Baseball Americaís #2-rated prospect in college baseball, lefthanded pitcher Jeff Francis (3-0), hurled 7.1 innings, scattering five hits, giving up two earned runs, and striking out nine batters. Conor Whitely closed the door in the ninth to pick up his team-best fourth save.
Micah Furtado was the only Lewis-Clark State (15-5) batter to have multiple hits, a single and a double. The Warriors struck for three runs in the eighth, led by Furtadoís RBI double.

UBC defeated Saint Martin's College in the first game of the day, 15-9. Zamojc went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored and Dunstan went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Dave Gautier (1-0) picked up the win.
The three-day tournament wraps up tomorrow when UBC battles LCSC at 11:00 AM, and then Saint Martinís College will take on Lewis-Clark State at about 2:00 PM.
