Lewis-Clark State Wins Battle of the Warriors, 11-2, Over WBC
LEWISTON,ID--The NAIA’s top-ranked team, Lewis-Clark State College, pushed across three runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to an 11-2 win over Western Baptist College in the Guardian Plumbing and Heating Tournament, Friday afternoon, at Harris Field.
Micah Furtado led off the first inning by being hit by a pitch, and then Brendan Ryan dropped down a bunt single to third base. After a fly ball sent Furtado to third, Lewis-Clark State (11-4) pulled off a double steal, with Furtado scoring and Ryan advancing to second, and drawing the throw. Two batters later, Tory Haven singled to center field, plating Ryan. Nick Bullen then singled home courtesy runner Neil Litchfield for the game winning RBI.
The Warriors scored single runs in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings before erupting for five in the eighth.
Bullen led the Warriors with three hits, all singles, and also drove in a pair of runs. Haven went 2-for-4 with three RBI, including an RBI single to center that just missed being a home run by only a couple of feet in the seventh.
Andy Torres (3-0) tossed 99 pitches in gaining the victory. He struck out seven and scattered six hits in seven innings of work. He allowed two runs, both earned, and walked only one batter.
K.C. Rumrey led Western Baptist (9-3) with a pair of singles.
Lewis-Clark State will play two more games tomorrow, at 10:00 AM vs. Concordia (OR) and at 1:00 PM against Western Baptist. Concordia and Western Baptist will play the late game at 4:00 PM to conclude day two of the Guardian Plumbing and Heating Tournament.
