2002 Avista NAIA World Series Brackets Released
LEWISTON, ID-The brackets for the 46th annual NAIA World Series were released Monday morning, May 20th. The tournament consists of ten teams and the format is double elimination.
The World Series opens on Friday, May 24th, at 9:00 AM Pacific. Mayville, N.D. State University (31-13), the Plains Super Regional champion, opens with Indiana Tech (47-15-1), of Fort Wayne, the second at-large team. At noon, Albertson College (39-18-1) of Caldwell, Idaho, the West Coast Super Regional champion, takes on Embry-Riddle University (49-10) of Daytona Beach, Fla., the Atlantic South Super Regional champion. Starting at about 3:00 PM is the game between the Heartland Super Regional champion, Olivet Nazarene University (40-14) of Bourbonnais, Ill., and Mid South Super Regional champion and top-ranked Oklahoma City University (54-13). The first night end with the first at-large team, Bellevue, Neb. University (44-15-1) taking on the host school, Lewis-Clark State College (36-15), at 7:00 PM.
The tournament continues on Saturday with two elimination games, and East Coast Super Regional champion Ohio Dominican College (43-11) of Columbus will take on the winner of Mayville State and Indiana Tech. Spalding University (55-21) of Louisville, Ky. will battle the winner of Bellevue-Lewis-Clark State in the evening session.
The tournament runs through Friday, May 31st, for the if necessary championship game. Thursday May 30th, at 7:00 PM, will be the night of the championship game if both teams remaining have one loss, or the undefeated team wins. The rain date is Saturday, June 1st. There will be no baseball on Sunday, May 26th.
