Lewis-Clark State's bats came to life in the
final game of the Guardian Tournament, and
the Warriors drubbed Whitworth 11-2 on
Sunday afternoon at Harris Field.
D.J. Kooken had three of L-C's 15 hits, and
Justin Fuller drove in three runs as the
Warriors picked up their 10th victory of the
season. They went 3-1 in the three-team
tournament, as did Albertson, which beat
Whitworth 11-3 in Sunday's first game.
Albertson is now 9-1, Whitworth 3-6.
The Warriors' primary outburst came in
the fifth inning, when they scored five runs
on four hits. Fuller had a two-run double
and Kooken an RBI double while Nick Currin
contributed an RBI groundout and Paul Martin
a sacrifice fly.
L-C capped its scoring with a three-run
eighth. Among its five hits in the inning
were RBI singles by Currin, Jessie Roehl and
Morrow.
Dustin Willis, the third of six Warriors
to take the mound, got the win for three
innings of work, during which he allowed
three hits and notched one strikeout.
Whitworth starter Jordan Farkas, chased
in the fifth inning, took the loss.
Ahead for the Warriors this week is the
51st annual Banana Belt Tournament. Chicago
State and Gonzaga will join L-C and co-host
Washington State for the four-day,
eight-game event that, weather permitting,
will feature games at WSU's Bailey-Brayton
Field as well as Harris Field. The
tournament begins Thursday. |
