LCSC bounces back with 17-6 win
5-2-07
The
Lewis-Clark State College baseball team got
back into the swing of things Wednesday
night, collecting 15 hits en route to a 17-6
triumph over the University of British
Columbia at Harris Field.
LCSC, 45-4
overall, picked up its first win against UBC
this season in three game by rediscovering
its offensive stroke.
Averaging 10
runs a game this season, the Warriors had
seen that cut in half during its last five
games, including losing by a rare shutout at
home on Tuesday night.
LCSC, however,
used eight extra-base hits, including three
home runs, to score 15 runs in the sixth
through eighth innings to roll to the
victory.
UBC, 19-16, was
looking to make it three straight over the
Warriors this season and had a 5-2 lead
entering the bottom of the sixth. LCSC,
however, scored four times in the sixth,
four more in the seventh, and then seven in
the eighth.
British
Columbia currently trails Albertson by two
games in the Region I standings and plays
host to the Caldwell school this weekend in
a three-game series that will decide who is
the host team for the Region I tournament.
With that, UBC is either only using its top
pitchers for a couple of innings or saving
them for the weekend. That caught up with
the T-Birds Wednesday night when the final
three pitchers were roughed up.
Lewiston junior
first baseman Kyle Greene (shown above) did
most of the damage for the Warriors. He went
2-for-5 with a double and a home run, and
drove in five runs. Paul Martin added three
RBI, while Jessie Mier and Zach Evangelho
had two each.
Mier had a solo
home run in the second while Brent Wyatt
added an RBI triple in the third to tie the
game at 2-2.
After UBC took
the lead, LCSC used an RBI singles by Beau
Mills, Martin, and Mier to tie the game in
the sixth. LCSC then took the lead when
Martin scored on a passed ball.
In the seventh,
Jesse Roehl hit a solo home run to left
field and an error brought in the second
run. Greene capped the inning with a two-run
double.
The Warriors
used six hits and an error to score seven
runs in the eighth inning. Martin's RBI
single started the scoring, while Greene hit
a three-run homer to center field. Evangelho
added a two-run double, while an error
allowed the final run to score.
Brad
Schwarzenbach, the third LCSC pitcher,
picked up the win to improve to 5-0 on the
season. He went 3 1/3 innigns and allowed
four hits, two walks and a run. He also
struck out four. Starter Mike Miller allowed
four hits, four runs and three walks in his
four innings, while Matt Duryea was touched
for three hits and a run in his 1 2/3
innings of work.
The two teams
wrap up the three-game series with a noon
contest on Thursday. |
