Warriors sweep Oregon Tech 12-1 and 10-3

Lewis-Clark State College junior third baseman Beau Mills hit two home runs and drove in seven runs to help the Warriors sweep Oregon Tech 12-1 and 10-3 in a Region I league doubleheader at Lewiston's Harris Field on Saturday.
 
The Warriors, the top-ranked NAIA team, improved to 26-2 overall and 12-1 in league after outscoring the Owls 40-8 in the three-game series. LCSC defeated Oregon Tech 18-5 on Friday night.
 
Oregon Tech, which has lost 14 straight, is 4-18 overall and 2-13 in Region I play.
 
Mills continued to swing a hot bat as he was a combined 4-for-5 in the doubleheader with five runs scored. He drove in four runs in the opener, which went only seven innings, and added three RBI in the nightcap.
 
For the season, Mills, who transferred to LCSC from Fresno State, leads the Warriors in hitting (.464), home runs (11), RBI (51), runs scored (46), and hits (52).
 
The Warriors had little trouble in the opener. LCSC hit four home runs and three Warrior pitchers held the Owls to just four hits and one unearned run. Joe Guntz (1-0) gave up
 (Beau Mills belts two home runs in doubleheader)   two hits in two innings and struck out two,
                                                                         while Dixon Allen allowed one hit with one strikeout over the next two innings. Brian Bird went the final three innings and allowed one hit, one unearned run, and also struck out two.
 
 
The Warriors got rolling early with four runs in the first inning. Mills started the scoring with an RBI double, while Joey Briggs hit a three-run home run to center field.
 
LCSC added six more runs in the fourth to make it 10-0. Donnie Ecker tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Dick Knutz. After a pair of singles, Mills smacked a three-run home run to left-center field. Greene and Ryan Wholey followed with solo home runs to give LCSC back-to-back-to-back home runs in the inning.
 
After Oregon Tech used an error to score its only run in the top of the fifth, the Warriors scored single runs in the fifth and sixth.Mark Thompson had an RBI groundout in the fifth, and Kyle Melton's sacrifice fly drove in a run in the sixth.
 
In the second game, the Warriors scored a single run in the first and two in the third and fourth apiece to race out to a 5-0 lead.  Mills' sacrifice fly drove in the first run, while Brent Wyatt tripled in a run in the third nad later scored on a second RBI sacrifice fly by Mills. Mike Rivera and Wyatt added RBI singles in the fourth.

Oregon Tech got on the board in the fifth, but LCSC answered with a run in the bottom of the inning with the help of an error.

Oregon Tech made it 6-3 in the top of the sixth, but the Warriors put three on the board in the bottom of the inning. Kyle Greene drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly, while a wild pitch and an RBI single by Paul Martin drove in the final two runs.

LCSC's final run came in the bottom of the eighth when Mills led off with a solo home run to center field.

On the mound, Matt Duryea picked up the win, going five innings and allowing just four hits and one run. He also struck out six. Chris Schwinden pitched 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

The Warriors return to action on Monday with a three-game non-league series with California Baptist. The teams play Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, all at 6 p.m.
