LCSC-APU to open West Coast
Super Regional on Wednesday
05-11-08
It will be a
battle of two of the top
three seeds in the Super
Regionals when Lewis-Clark
State College plays host to
Azusa Pacific in the
best-of-three West Coast
Super Regional, which opens
Wednesday at LCSC's Harris
Field.
With Lubbock
Christian, the top-ranked
team in the final NAIA poll,
being eliminated at
regionals, LCSC is now the
top seed of the 14 remaining
teams, according to the new
seeding released by the NAIA
on Sunday. LCSC is 50-5
overall and was ranked No. 2
in the country.
Azusa
Pacific, 45-8, is the No. 3
seed in the Super Regionals
and, like LCSC, is already
assured a berth in the 52nd
annual Avista NAIA World
Series at Harris Field on
May 23-30. The Cougars, who
will make the trip to
Lewiston on Tuesday for
Super Regional play, will
likely stay in Lewiston once
Super Regional play is
concluded for the Series.
The first
game of the APU-LCSC Super
Regional is slated for 6
p.m. on Wednesday, while
Game 2 is at 6 p.m. on
Thursday. The third game is
scheduled for Saturday, most
likely in the afternoon, but
the starting time won't be
set until APU and LCSC
officials discuss it. There
will not be a game on Friday
because LCSC's graduation
will be held at 6 p.m. that
evening in the Activity
Center.
No season
passes or other passes will
be honored for the Super
Regional Ticket prices are
$5 for adults and $3 for
students with ID cards. All
seating is general
admission.
The West
Coast Super Regional is a
repeat of a year ago when
APU and LCSC met in
California. LCSC prevailed
2-1 in the Series, and all
of the games were high
scoring.
Along with
LCSC and APU, Lee
University, Oklahoma City,
and Embry-Riddle also have
clinched berths to the
Series. Lee, the No. 2
seed, and Embry-Riddle, the
No. 5 seed, meet in the
Atlantic South Super
Regional and the loser is
guaranteed an at-large
berth. Oklahoma City, the
No. 4 seed, also is
guaranteed at worse an
at-large bid.
The dates and
game times for the remaining
Super Regionals will be set
on Monday, but most Super
Regionals likely won't begin
until Thursday and at least
one will start on Friday.
The Super
Regional pairings are listed
below along with the
seeding:
