Woods and Hardy
help LCSC shut out
Concordia again
PORTLAND, Ore. - Ryan
Woods and Blaine Hardy
combined on a five-hit
shutout to help the
Lewis-Clark State
College baseball team to
its sixth straight win
with a 7-0 win over
Concordia University on
Sunday.
The victory helped the
Warriors sweep their
second straight
three-game series and
improve 35-4 overall.
LCSC also improves to
40-0 against Concordia
under coach Ed Cheff.
Concordia falls to 11-17
on the season.
Woods, a junior from
Mill Creek, Wash., has
moved back and forth
between being a closer
and a starter this
season. On Sunday, he
struck out a season-high
eight batters. He
pitched five innings and
allowed two hits and two
walks.
In all three of his
starts this season,
Woods has gone five
innings and picked up
the victory in each. In
the 15 innings, he's
allowed only seven hits
and two runs, and has
struck out 20. He's now
5-1 on the season.
Hardy helped the
Warriors to their sixth
shutout of the season
and their second in
three days against
Concordia. On Friday,
Matt Fitts blanked
Concordia during 4-0
win.
Hardy pitched the final
four innings on Sunday
and gave up three hits.
He also struck out two
to earn his third save
of the season.
At the plate, outfielder
Chris Valencia drove in
a season-high three runs
and also was the only
Warrior with more than
on hit in the game as he
finished with two.
The Warriors picked up
their first run in the
opening inning when
Brent Wyatt walked, went
to third on a single by
Josh Ashenbrenner, and
scored when Kyle Greene
grounded into a double
play.
LCSC made it 3-0 in the
fourth when Kyle Green
doubled and Sean Halton
walked. After Brian
Ward's grounder forced
Greene out a third,
Ricky Reavis reached on
an error to load the
bases. Valencia then
singled to right to
score two runs.
The Warriors added
another run in the sixth
when Reavis doubled and
scored on another single
to right by Valencia.
LCSC's final three runs
cross the plate in the
eighth inning. Ward
opened the inning with a
single and Reavis was
hit by a pitch. Paul
Martin reached on an
error to load the bases,
and Rivera followed with
a walk to force in a
run. Justin Speer's
sacrifice fly scored a
second run, while Wyatt
added an RBI single to
complete the scoring.
The Warriors return to
action Wednesday and
Thursday for
home-and-home contests
against Whitworth.
Wednesday's game is at 6
p.m. at LCSC's Harris
Field and will be
Scholarship Night.
Thursday's game will be
at Avista Stadium in
Spokane at 6:30 p.m.
LCSC will then play host
to Corban College in a
single game at 6:30 p.m.
on Friday and then in a
noon doubleheader on
