LCSC: Was part of the group battling for the second base starting job last year, and also played short and third as well. Started 24 of the 47 games he played in and finished sixth on the team in stolen bases. Hit .270 with nearly a third of his hits going for extra bases.

JUNIOR COLLEGE: Played two seasons at Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Ore.  He earned second-team all-league honors both seasons. Hit .353 as a freshman and then .404 in 2006.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played both soccer and basketball at Hamilton High in Montana, where he earned three letters in basketball and four in soccer, where he was an all-conference selection all four years and an all-state choice his final two seasons. He also played Legion baseball and his teams won two state titles.

PERSONAL: Born on Jan. 5, 1985 to Randy and Rhonda Melton in Missoula, Mont. He has two sisters, Whitney and MacKenzie. He lists his hobbies as hunting and fishing. Kyle is majoring in Kinesiology at LCSC.
