Three-time defending national champion Lewis-Clark State College baseball team is a unanimous No. 1 selection in the NAIA Baseball Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 poll, which came out this week.
The Warriors, who went 58-7 last season en route to winning the program’s 16th national title, received all 21 first-place votes.
Lee University, which finished second a year ago, was the No. team with 572 points, while Embry-Riddle, Biola, and Spring Arbor round out the top five.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the 24 conferences, independents and unaffiliated groups. The first regular season Top 25 poll will be announced on Feb. 24, 2009.
College of Idaho, which plays in the same Region I league as LCSC, didn’t make the Top 25 but was next in line with the most votes.
LCSC is scheduled to open it season in the Regence BlueShield of Idaho tournament on Feb. 13-15 at LCSC’s Harris Field. Joining LCSC for the tournament will be Corban, Concordia, College of Idaho, British Columbia and Patten.
