Warriors climb to No. 6; No. 16 Fresno Pacific awaits
4/7/2009

A current 10-game win streak helped the Lewis-Clark State College baseball team move to No. 6 in this week’s NAIA Baseball Coaches’ Top 25 poll, which was released on Tuesday.

The Warriors had been at No. 9 and as low as No. 10 this season, which is believed to be the team’s lowest ranking in nearly two decades.

LCSC, however, has won its last 10 games and now stands at 21-6, which helped it move up three spots in this week’s poll. The Warriors had 479 points, which is 27 behind No. 5 Union of Kentucky.

With 19 first-place votes, Lubbock Christian (Texas) University laid claim to the No. 1 ranking. Winners in 13 of their last 15 games, the Chaps recorded 590 total points and are the top-ranked team for the third straight week and eighth time in the last 11 polls. LCU is 33-4 overall on the year and ranks in the Top 10 statistically in 13 different team categories.

Fellow Sooner Athletic Conference member Oklahoma City stays at No. 2 with 568 total points. The Stars own the most wins in the NAIA (36) and are the second-ranked team for the third straight week.

The Warriors face a busy week at home this week, playing No. 16 Fresno Pacific in a four-game series starting on Wednesday. Fresno Pacific jumped eight spots in this week’s poll from No. 24. LCSC and Fresno Pacific meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, in a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Thursday, and at noon on Friday.

Western Oregon, which is ranked No. 19 in NCAA Division II play, comes to town for a three-game series starting on Saturday. Game times are at 2 p.m. on Saturday, noon on Sunday and 11 a.m. on Monday.
