After three straight weeks of being ranked No. 6, the Lewis-Clark State College baseball team moved up a spot in the national rankings. The Warriors are listed as No. 5 in this week’s NAIA Baseball Coaches’ Top 25 poll, which was released on Tuesday.
Since last week’s poll the Warriors won four out of six games including a series win over nationally ranked British Columbia. In what was then a battle between the No. 6 and No. 8 ranked teams in the nation, the Warriors ran over the Thunderbirds 18-4 in the first game, held for a 3-2 win in the middle game, and then fell 2-11 in the finale.
With two losses to the Warriors, British Columbia, now 32-10, dropped five spots in the poll to be ranked 13th.
LCSC (33-10) earned 547 points which was good enough to surpass Southern Polytechnic State (Ga.) which earned 513 points and fell from No. 4 to No. 6. Just four points ahead of the Warriors is Berry College (Ga.) which received 551 points to rise from seventh to fourth.
Despite having a 16-game winning streak snapped, Lubbock Christian (42-5) was ranked No. 1 for the sixth straight week. The Chaps snatched all 22 first place votes to earn 622 total points.
Also in the top 5 is No. 2 Oklahoma City (45-7) with 600 points, and No. 3 Point Loma Nazarene (34-11) with 576.
