Corban defeats College of
Idaho 18-16

drove in three runs apiece
and Craig Spicer went
5-for-7 at the plate to help
the Corban College baseball
team overcome seven errors
to defeat the College of
Idaho 18-16 in the opening
game of the Regence
BlueShield of Idaho
Tournament at Lewis-Clark
State College’s Harris Field
on Friday afternoon.
The contest was the season
opener for both teams, but
hitting wasn’t a problem as
the two combined for 38
hits, including 10 doubles
and 12 extra-base hits.
Corban led 3-0, and after
College of Idaho tied the
game in the bottom of the
second, the Warriors put up
seven runs in the third to
take the lead for good. The
final inning featured seven
runs, including four by the
Coyotes in the bottom of the
ninth. College of Idaho had
the tying run on first base
when the final out was made.
Brad Carlson led College of
Idaho with a 3-for-5 effort
at the plate, including the
game’s only home run, a
two-run shot in the seventh
inning. Carlson finished
with five RBI.
Both teams return on
Saturday. Corban will play
Concordia at 10 a.m. to
start play, while College of
Idaho will face Patten of
Oakland, Calif., at 3 p.m.
The five-team round-robin
tournament runs through
Monday.
