11/6/2009

Two members of the Lewis-Clark State College baseball team were named to the 2010 NAIA Baseball Preseason All-America Team, the NAIA announced on Friday.

Senior infielder Josh Ashenbrenner and senior catcher Brian Burke both were named to the 17-member squad, which featured eight infielder, one outfield, two catchers and six pitchers.

Ashenbrenner, from Kirkland, Wash., is in his third year of the program and was an All-America Honorable Mention selection last season. He led the Warrior regulars with a .435 batting average with 77 hits in 177 trips to the plate. He also led the team in runs scored at 53 and tied for second in doubles with 11 and RBI with 44. He also had four home runs and a .502 on-base percentage.  He played mainly at third base last season but has also played at shortstop and second base during his career.

Burke is a transfer from Kansas Wesleyan this season for LCSC. The 6-foot-2 215-pounder, who is from Lancaster, Calif., started 49 of the 50 games he played in and hit .435 with 74 hits in 170 trips to the plate. He had 17 doubles, 12 home runs and 40 RBI. He finished with a slugging percentage of .771 and earned second-team NAIA All-America honors last season.

The Preseason All-America team was chosen by the NAIA All-America Selection Committee.

Three other teams – Lubbock Christian, Louisiana State-Shreveport, and St. Xavier – also had two players honored.
