For the fourth straight week, the Lewis-Clark State College baseball team was ranked No. 1 in the NAIA Baseball Coaches’ Top 25 poll, which had its fourth regular season edition announced on Tuesday.
The Warriors, who own the best winning percentage in the NAIA (.916) with a 36-3 record, claimed all 24 of the first-place votes. Since 2000, Lewis-Clark State has been ranked No. 1 a total of 50 times, which is the most of any program. The Warriors have not been ranked worse than 10th going all the way back to the end of the 1989 season.
Lewis-Clark State is now coming off of a nine game road trip during which it went 8-1 with its only loss coming against fourth-ranked University of British Columbia. Despite LCSC taking the series against UBC 2-1, both teams saw an increase in points received in this week’s poll. LCSC received 684 points after earning 622 points last week, while the Thunderbirds increased from 557 to 593.
The top 10 remained unchanged with the exception of Point Loma Nazarene University (Calif.) dropping from ninth to No. 15 which enabled Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Fla.) and Belhaven University (Miss.) to climb to No. 9 and No. 10, respectively.
