The memorial service for Lewis-Clark State College baseball player Zach Hull will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the LCSC Activity Center.
Two Warrior baseball players were involved in a tragic accident in Lewiston early Thursday morning that claimed the life of sophomore pitcher Hull of Moscow.
Hull was the driver of a truck that police reports said went over an embankment near Vineyard Drive in Lewiston. Hull died in the wreck while junior pitcher Brock Jessup of Nampa was treated and released at the scene for minor injuries.
Because of the accident, LCSC and Central Washington have called off their scheduled two-game series this weekend at LCSC’s Harris Field. The two coaching staffs will decide at a later date whether to make up the games.
Hull, a 6-foot-3 left-handed pitcher, was having an outstanding year for the 14-5 Warriors. He was 3-0 with a 0.00 earned run average. He pitched 17.1 innings and allowed just 13 hits and six walks. He also struck out 10 and opponents were hitting just .191 against him.
Hull’s best outing this season was a seven-inning relief appearance when he shut down Concordia. He held Concordia to six hits and two walks with four strikeouts to pick up the win. On Tuesday of this week, Hull pitched six innings, gave up four hits and struck out five in a 13-5 win over St. Martin’s.
Last season, he was the only freshman on the pitching staff to see playing time. Injuries forced him to miss the majority of the season, but he appeared in four games late in the season and made two starts. He finished the season with a 1-0 record and a 1.26 ERA. His one victory came in a complete nine-inning performance against Corban when he allowed just four hits and struck out six. He struck out 15 in 14.1 innings and held the opposition to just a .146 batting average.
Hull graduated from Moscow High in 2009 where he was a three-sport athlete. He was a pitcher and first baseman on the baseball team and earned three letters. He served as captain the final two seasons and the highlight of his senior career came in the opening round of the Idaho State 4A Tournament when he pitched a no-hitter and hit a solo home run in a 1-0 win over Pocatello. He struck out 13 and walked three in the game. He finished his senior season at 6-1 and earned first-team all-league honors while his team finished second at state.
Hull also played quarterback on the football team and earned three letters. He was the starter his final two season and earned second-team all-Inland Empire League honors as a senior when he was also captain of the team. In basketball, he played two seasons at post.
