The Lewis-Clark State College baseball team, riding a six-game win streak moved up four spots in this week’s NAIA Baseball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll to No. 14.
The Warriors, 30-13 overall, were No. 18 last week but climbed after sweeping a six-game series from Corban. LCSC drew 344 points in the poll to trail No. 13 Faulkner University of Alabama, which has 350 points.
LCSC wraps up NAIA West play this week with a four-game series against the College of Idaho, which received votes in the poll, in Caldwell. The two teams play at 3 p.m. on Thursday, a noon doubleheader on Friday, and a single game at noon on Saturday.
In this week’s poll, Embry-Riddle claimed the No. 1 ranking to become the fourth team to occupy the top spot this season. Oklahoma City slid up to No. 2 with three first-place nods for 569 points and California Baptist moved to No. 3 with 547 points.
Former-No. 1 Lee (Tenn.) dropped back to No. 4 with 532 points, while also receiving one-first place vote. No. 5 Cumberland (Tenn.) totaled 526 points to round out the top-five teams.
Thirteen conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups have at least one team represented in the preseason poll, five of which boast multiple Top-25 teams.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups. The next poll will be announced on May 3.
