
Former Lewis-Clark State College baseball standout Beau Mills capped a strong comeback season by driving in two runs to help Columbus defeat Omaha 8-3 in the Triple A National Championship Game in Albuquerque, N.M. on Tuesday night.
The left-handed hitting first baseman, who was the team’s cleanup hitter in the championship game, had an RBI single in the three-run third inning to help Columbus take a 6-3 lead. He then hit a solo home run in the eighth and finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
The title was the second straight for Columbus.
Mills’ performance capped a strong season for the 13th overall pick by the Cleveland Indians in the 2007 Major League Draft. Mills began the year injured before joining the Indians’ Class AA team in Akron for the third straight year. After hitting .300 with 11 home runs, 16 doubles, and 49 RBI in 61 games, Mills was moved up to Columbus and appeared in 35 games as a designated hitter and first baseman. He finished the season hitting .269 with seven home runs and 18 RBI. Over his last five games, Mills was 11-for-20 with three doubles, two home runs and three RBI.
Mills starred at LC during the 2007 season and set the NAIA record by belting 38 home runs in leading the program to a 15th national championship.
