The Lewis-Clark State College baseball team rose three spots to be ranked No. 12 in the NAIA Baseball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, the national office announced on Tuesday.
The Warriors are riding a five-game win streak after sweeping a four-game series with the University of British Columbia in Vancouver over the weekend. LCSC stands in first place in the NAIA West standings with a league record of 15-4 and an overall mark of 25-8.
LCSC received 347 points in the poll after garnering 311 points and being ranked No. 15 in last week’s poll.
Lewis-Clark State has been led by strong pitching throughout the season and especially during the recent win streak. In their last five games, including one game against No. 4–ranked Embry-Riddle, the Warriors have outscored their opponents 29-6. As a team, the Warriors rank No. 6 in the NAIA with an opponent batting average of .228, and No. 10 with an ERA of 3.01.
In offensive categories, LCSC ranks No. 6 in doubles per game (2.3) and No. 9 in hits per game (10.7).
LSU Shreveport holds down the top spot in the poll, Oklahoma City is No. 2, and Lee University is No. 3. The Flames lost two straight games to unranked Southern Wesleyan last week which allowed the Pilots to climb from No. 2 and take the top spot.
The Warriors will host Whitworth University at Harris Field on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The non-league game is billed as Canned Food Night and fans who donate two cans of food at the gate will receive free admission.
