The Lewis-Clark State College baseball team continues to climb in the NAIA Baseball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, released by the national office on Tuesday. The Warriors rose three spots in this week’s poll and are ranked No. 9.
LCSC has now risen six places in the last two weeks and are back in the top 10 for the first time since being listed at No. 4 in the preseason poll of the 2011 season.
The Warriors, 29-9 overall, have won nine of their last 10 games and currently lead the NAIA West Division standings with a league record of 18-5. The team will start a four-game league series against Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls, Ore., this weekend. Because of concerns about weather and facilities the series schedule has been altered and will now begin on Saturday. Saturday’s game will start a 5 p.m., and will be followed by an 11 a.m. doubleheader on Sunday, and a final game at 11 a.m. on Monday.
Lewis-Clark State, which received 382 points in the poll after garnering 347 points last week, had a season-high 24 hits in a single game last week and in a separate contest set a program record by collecting 13 hits in one inning. The Warriors are No. 5 in the NAIA in both hits (11.3) and doubles (2.5) per game, and are No. 7 in the nation with an opponent batting average of .227.
LSU Shreveport (La.) leads the poll for the second straight week, Lee (Tenn.) is No. 2, and Oklahoma City is No. 3.
The poll was voted on by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences/independent/unaffiliated groupings. The next Coaches' Top 25 Poll will be released on April 17.
