The Lewis-Clark State College baseball team edged its way back to No. 9 in the NAIA Baseball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, released by the national office on Tuesday.
LCSC, currently 37-10 overall, received 413 points in this week’s poll to squeak past No. 10-ranked Point Park’s (Pa.) total of 412.
The Warriors held the No. 9 ranking two weeks ago before surrendering to No. 10 spot to Point Park in last week’s poll. LCSC and Point Park have now held down the No. 9 and No. 10 positions for three consecutive weeks.
Despite a number of injuries the Warriors have played very well over the past few weeks having won 11 of their last 12 games and 17 of their last 19.
The Warriors had five wins last week including a four-game sweep of NAIA West foe Patten University. Their 5-0 win over Patten on Sunday improved them to 25-6 in league play and clinched the division title.
The College of Idaho rose three spots in the poll to sit at No. 21. The Coyotes are second in the NAIA West standings with a league mark of 20-8 and an overall record of 35-13.
LSU Shreveport (La.) remained first in the rankings, Oklahoma City is No. 2, Faulkner (Ala.) No. 3, Azusa Pacific (Calif.) No. 4, and Lee (Tenn.) is No. 5.
The Warriors will play their final regular season home games this weekend against Linfield College. The three-game series will feature games at 6 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Friday is billed as Rally the Valley Night and all Avista NAIA World Series volunteers, past and present, will receive free admission. Saturday is Youth Baseball and Softball Day and all fans wearing their team shirt will get in free. Happy Day Corporation is the series sponsor and will be on hand on Friday to give away gift cards along with souvenir mugs and t-shirts.
